My arm got twisted (by me) after I went to dealer open house, end of year deal and voila' , took the plunge & I'm picking it up next Saturday. Now, what Insurance company offers discounts for BMWs like Progressive does for Goldwings /GWRRA ?

I don't know of any discounts for BMW's but Geico has been good to me. I have 3 bikes with them. 800-44-cycle its a free call and never hurts to shop around. I used to have Progressive, but the rates were a bit high. IMHO good luck...

I actually use State Farm because all of my cars and house are with them, but I've heard good things about:

Look on the home page and you will see BMW MOA teams up with Markel insurance. Click on that and it lists all of the discounts provided for such as ABS etc.

I found progressive to be much more competitive than Geico.

Enjoy your new ride.

+1 on the BMW MOA link to Markel Insurance. Fantastic rates. I have motorcycle policies with Allstate and Progressive and discovered Markel through BMW MOA was close to $200 less per year. Definately worth a look into.

When I got mine I checked all the major insurance companies, including the BMW preferred. Progressive had the lowest premiums with the same coverages so as to compare apples to apples. State or city of residence might make a difference -- I'm in Texas.

Ditto for me here in WI. Progressive far out ahead of the competition in quoting me for 'apples-to-apples' coverage, so I went with them.

Hey congrats!
Let's see some pics next weekend, ok?
I'm all State Farm (three bikes, house, auto) but that may change in near future when uh . . ahem . . well, never mind. :bolt

Thanks for the insurance replies. I have already asked for quote on same Progressive policy as Gold Wing. I am also trying to get to website for Markel insurance for about a hour now and no matter what I do , no link works ,even the BMWMOA advertiser list link , AOL/Google can't get me to the Markel insurance site. They didn't go out of business or something ? I have test searched other stuff tonight with success .

The rates from Dairyland seem good. If you are getting quotes, include them.

I pay $400 a year for full coverage thru State Farm. I don't think thats too bad.

$329/year full-coverage with Progressive for '08 RT.

I've used them for years for several bikes. Been a while since I shopped around but 4 years ago they were the cheapest I found.

I ended up choosing Progressive again for the RT's insurance through Alliance Ins Group in Phoenix, $341 and they sent through insurance proof card in e-mail in one day so I would be Michigan legal when I pick up RT Saturday. Recommendable!

Check with all the companies listed above and go with the lowest.

That said, make sure you read the fine print. Geico used to have a provision in their policies that limited the "covered" number of miles you could ride in one day. I do not remember the number.

Make sure you read the fine print. DO NOT depend on what the agent says. If what the agent says conflicts with the written provisions of the policy, the written provisions of the policy control.

Check out Progressive. I've had Geico for my cars for 20 years because they have the best rates for my cars, but Progressive's premium for my 06 RT is HALF of Geico's quote. Just make sure you get good coverage; don't pinch pennies because extra coverage is just a few dollars more. For instance, Virginia minimum is 25/50/20, which is a joke these days. I have 250/500/100 and UM 250/500.
