Hello,

I recently purchased a “previously-owned” CHP 1999 R1100RT-P with 47,000 miles and I’d like to convert the rear police radio box back to having a passenger seat and rack which should be capable of holding a BMW case on it (removable if possible). I’m new to the R1100RT-P platform (coming over from an ancient Honda) and still finding my resources on the net.

The BMW Motorrad Police Information site https://www.bmwmc.net/uploads/tm7/dualseats.pdf has a pdf file which lists the parts I’ll need. Could someone with a little more BMW experience than me (that would be ANYONE reading this) help me figure out the list? For example if I’m going to put a different tail piece on which will support a BMW rack is there a different tail piece or are they all the same?

The tail piece I’ve found on e-bay
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7903615182&category=35606 looks like it might work, but I’ll have to repaint it black. Is the $149 a fair price?

Will I need to change my under seat panel? Here’s one on e-bay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7903900459&category=35606

And will I need the left rear under seat plastic?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7903615686&category=35606
and the right rear http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7903615686&category=35606 ?

Of course I’m going to need a rack, top case, and foot pegs too.

ANY advice would be greatly appreciated.

Ride Safely!

Scott

I downloaded the parts list and here is my opinion on what you will need. Basically you will need everything on the list. Most of the list is bolts, washers, etc. The main parts you will need are the luggage carriers(holder, left & holder, right), luggage rack (luggage carrier), support. The support is the metal piece under the seat that extends to the back of the back and protrudes through the tail piece to hold the rack. You will also need the rear seat of course and tail section. The tail section can be bought new unpainted for 109.66 at Chicago BMW. Part no. 52 53 2 313 702. I do not believe you need the under the seat plastic pieces. You can get prices on all your parts at this site.

Don't bother with buying the helmet holders if you are going to have bags on the bike. They are useless with bags installed.

To offset the cost of the new parts, bear in mind that the RT-P tail section is quite desirable on the used parts market.

Thanks for the information. Is there anyplace on the web where there is an exploded parts diagram of the tail assembly?

Thanks again,
Scott

Have you been to the Max's BMW site? I forget the URL, but you should be able to google it right up. They have all the fiche for BMW motorcycles up there.

It's kind of slow, but livign here on the west coast, you can hit it at night when everyone else has gone to bed.

Kioolt,

Thanks for all the input. You said:

"The main parts you will need are the luggage carriers(holder, left & holder, right), luggage rack (luggage carrier), support. The support is the metal piece under the seat that extends to the back of the back and protrudes through the tail piece to hold the rack."

Do you or anyone else have part numbers for these or know where I might find them used? So far I've been able to find pretty much everything else.

Thanks,
Scott

I got the information that I gave you from the parts list you had the url listed for. https://www.bmwmc.net/uploads/tm7/dualseats.pdf

I had to goto www.bmwmc.net to start with since the url you gave seems to have something wrong with it. The part numbers are under Technical, Spare Parts Listing, Dual Seat Kit. I used my parts CD to see what the parts were.
