Hi, this might be a gear forum question but due to the canbus wiring on the hexheads will ask here. Have the alarm on my RT but it appears to be wired through the anemic horn. Thinking of pulling the Fiamms off my '83RT to use on the new bike. What, if any, effect will this have on the wiring? Have others used different means of alarming their rides? Is there such a product that sounds an alarm plus alerts you as well if you out of hearing range?

Use a relay in the line to the horns when you upgrade, the canbus won't see any difference and the horn will be louder. Yes, there are alarms that include a pager with a half mile or so of range that let you know when a Harley with loud pipes goes by your parked bike, setting off the alarm.

Are you sure that's the BMW factory alarm?
Mine does not use the horn but has it's own audible alert that would wake the dead.

Agreed, The alarm is not connected to the motorcycles horn. I have an 06 R1200RT and the alarms horn seems to be a bit asthmatic

My bike alarm is the cover I use. Otherwise, I am near the bike most of the time. I always cover mine, when away from the bike. At least it will slow them down, which most won't mess with the time to uncover it! Hope I'm right:). Plan B, my insurance. Randy:D

Thanks for the replies, closer inspection on my part that yes the alarm is not the horn. What is loud to one is just fine for another, maybe too many years of all that rock and roll racket...:laugh
