Wow, so a 7.8% voter turnout. We're even more apathetic than Americans in general, by about a factor of five.
Is 8% as good as your likely to get for an organization like this? Or can something be done to improve participation?

Six thousand people show up to the National every year, regardless of where its held. One thousand people participate in the mileage contest every year, give or take a few hundred. By and large this club has never had a majority of its members do ANYTHING, other than buy BMW motorcycles.
Low election turnout indicates low interest in the everyday operation of the club. That doesn't mean that the elected positions aren't important, it just means that as long as the magazine arrives by the 6th of every month, most of the club is happy. Getting people interested the elections has always been like nailing jello to a pole.

Looks like the BMW CCA (BMW Car Club of America) had about 1800 members out of 74,000 vote in their recent election. That's just 2.4 percent. Eight percent doesn't sound so bad now. :D

When I read the results, I was amazed at how few people
took the time to vote. I suppose even a little embarrased.
I suppose most look at the MOA as a subscription to a magazine
and not much more.

I think part of it is that people "forget" to vote.
If you want to get a good chuckle... We just recently did an online survey at the office for various business partners. One group of partners response rate was less than 1%! Kind of scary when we are paying them.:eek
However as I have said before and will say again. If you don't vote you don't get to complain. So since that survey came back, it has been very interesting at the office.

I did not vote. Because it's my first year and I don't know anything about my motorcycle much less this organization. Right now I feel like I'm along for the ride. I think everything is great. And think the Org. runs smoothly by great people who know a heeluva lot more about pretty much everything then I do. I enjoy the ON magazine and this forum with the info and great connections. I'm also kinda sitting back and checking things out. I don't really know anyone who was running so I figured I'd let those that do, do. And I won't complain, I promise. At least not about the BMWMOA. So I thank all those who ran and all those who now pledge a portion of their lives to this Organization and to my enjoyment of it. Thanks,
Michael
P.S. Next year I'm definetly voting. I hope to meet many of you at the Rally.

Yep.
Talk about leaving money on the table. :(
The solution involves setting an objective for a higher degree of member participation, implementing a strategy for building community, accomplished through tactics that involve the elimination of artificial barriers and the slaughter of sacred cows. :)

I'll have to go along with Michael on this one. As a brand new member of this group, I'm still learning the ropes, and haven't been around long enough to have formed an opinion of the organization or its management. I would like to thank those who put in their time to maintain this web site! I think it's awesome, and I hope to meet some of those responsible at the rally in Spokane this year.
