I have a 2005 R12RT. Lately I purchased a low seat and found out that it has a heating element with a wired connector coming out. How should I go about installing suitable connection on my bike?

At the risk of stating the obvious, that seat is designed to hook up to a bike that came equipped from the factory with optional heated seats. It is meant to mate with a connector/wire under the seat, and be controlled from a switch integrated into the right side of the handlebars. If you know all this, and were wondering how to wire it up regardless, someone else will have to answer that.

Alll you said is right. Now I got a bike that was not built to accept a heated seat - and a heated seat. What do I add/install on the bike to enable the heating function?

A replacement wiring harness, switch-gear, probably a software update, etc.
Not worth it, get an aftermarket heated seat if that's what you want.

Since the heated seat is likely designed to work on 12V - and he has it.. I'd beg to disagree. I'd suggest talking to the people at Heatroller about adapting one of their heated gear controllers to the stock seat. It probably is a fairly trivial thing to do (a few wire splices..) Then just mount the Heatroller where you can get at the knob and enjoy a warm tush.

Indeed. I already have an accessory fusebox on my bike and its key hot with a relay. This is an easy install. Plug it into the fusebox with an appropriate control and bingo. Warmth.
I do recommend the fusebox though. They're cheap and won't mess wioth your electrics.

Thanks for the replies. Looking at my post I realise that I forgot to mention that the low/heated seat is an original R12RT BMW low seat.
Following Mr. deilenberger advise, I will contact the good guys at Heatroller and see about connection and switches.
Ride safe.

And to MrGrocer, yes, I do (like most of us) have a fusebox on my bike.

True, only if he wanted it to work as a factory install with RID capability would he need the expensive bits. An aftermarket controller would definitely suffice.
