Anyone know if R1200GSA wheels will fit on an RT? Any special spacers necessary? Anyone have pics of an RT with GS wheels?

Why would you want to do this? I can understand going the opposite way and putting RT wheels on a GS...
Enlighten me please! :ear

I like the look of the wire wheels more. Also, if I wanted to have a bike just like everyone else, I would have bought a Harley.

OK. There's been a whole lot of people reading this post and only one reply that was of no help. Anybody out there gonna help?

Front wheel: The GS uses a 19" front wheel and 110/80-19 tire with an outer diameter of about 25.9". The RT uses a 17" front wheel and 120/70-17 tire with an outer diameter of about 23.6". I strongly doubt the GS wheel/tire is going to fit under the RT's front fender. I made no attempt to determine if it'll bolt up to the RT's Telelever.
Rear wheel: The GS uses a 150/70-17 rear tire while the RT uses a 180/55-17. Differences in outer diameter are minor, so clearance should not be a problem. Both GS and RT final drives use the same hub mounting flange so bolt-up should not be a problem.

Raceydog,
Have you considered the changes to rake and trail you would get from this?

I plan to use street tires on the rims if I get them. Lower profiles than the GS road tires probably. Are your measurements for the knobbys or road tires?
As far as the rake/trail, no I haven't thought about that. Have there been any 17 inch front wire wheels recently? Maybe I could have Woody's lace up a R1200 hub to a 17 inch BMW rim.

Makes sense, if you can find an outside spoke 17" rim. I think I remember seeing an early HP2 with a set up like that for racing slicks at BMW of Las Vegas once.
I don't recall if it was factory or aftermarket though.

Measurements I posted (assuming your question is directed at me) apply to both knobbies and dualsport (Tourance et al) tires.

17" laced front rim: YES. HP2 Enduro ships with two sets of wheels. The enduro-mode uses a 21" front wheel with knobbie; the street-mode uses a 17" (black, by the way) front wheel with sticky rubber.
You should probably learn to surf the parts fiche:

The next issues are going to be about hub width, axle and bearing sizes, and brakes. The spokes on a 17" outside laced rim will not clear your RT calipers.
You're going to have to do some serious brainstorming about how each answer asks another question, so to speak.

The rear uses the same brake caliper as the GSA, and they mount the same way, so the rear shouldn't be a problem. As far as the front, I guess I'll have to do some comparison measurements when I find an HP Enduro.
It sounds to me like the rear wheel should work and I'm half way to getting the front end questions answered. Looks like we're already brainstorming.

I agree with the above quote. Why not, in the name of originality, transplant K-Bike engine to the RT Chasis?
Sounds like a typical oxymoron to me - just like swapping those wheels. :D :D :D

So what you're saying is everyone should want to have similar looking things. That would definitely make all of my decisions easier. Wait...I wouldn't have to make any more decisions. That would free up plenty of riding time. Where are you guys riding to? I will be there at...wait, when should I be there? Ya' can't miss me, I'll be riding the bike that looks just like all of the other ones. :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :(

K1200RT? That could be my next project. Alloy wheels of course.:stick

Hey Raceydog, did you get anywhere with this?
My buddy wants to do this. Why? He wants to ride the RT to Alaska. The Rt with dual sport tires would be fine in Alaska (unless you go down in which case there will be a plastic explosion!). But the RT wheels are very soft and easily bend with potholes. GS wire wheels would eliminate that issue.
Thanks,
Robo

I actually sold the bike 4 or 5 months ago and haven't thought anymore about it. If I remember correctly, the HP2 Enduro wheels will work.
