:blush Kind people. Have a R1200s which is spec'd to hold 17 litres of fuel. When I run mine down as far as I dare, I can only get about 12 litres into it on fill-up. It goes about 230 km on a tank before the reserve comes on. Then it counts down from about 90 km remaining. I've run it down to about 20 km on reserve showing on the clock, but I am still no where close to filling it up to 16 or 17 litres from this point. The MOST I can fill at one time was 11.98 litres. What's the answer to this mystery? Thanks!

"I'm not fluent in the metric system or any other foreign language," so I'm not exactly sure on the math but my '08 RT does the same thing. 7.1 gallon tank. After I get to 0 miles on the BC, I have about 1 gallon left more or less.
Do a search, there are other threads related to this if I remember. Seems to be relatively consistent from what I've read-you always have more gas than the idiot light indicates.

Hmmm.... either you're not filling the tank up all the way or you've got lots more left and the countdown is not telling the truth. The only way to really know, I suppose, is to carry a spare 4 or 5 liters next time you get low and run the bike until you run out. Add the spare gas, go directly to a service station, and see how much you can add (keeping in mind what you've already added).

My '07RT holds 27L of fuel which is 7.1 U.S. gal and/or 6.0 Imp gal which we up here used prior to going metric. On a recent road trip I ran the tank down until the yellow warning light came on, the OBC told me only 23 km or 14 miles remained. According to page 28 of the manual, this means remaining distance until tapping into the last 4L of reserve fuel. By that calculation it should have taken 23L of gas and yet I could only squeeze in 20L. That ride covered 400 km(250miles) and it would seem the tank will allow 500 km of range. Hope that helps and not be clear as mud. :snore

The fuel guage on the R1200 is not accurate when it comes to showing empty. Mine was also way off, I had the dealer re-calibrate it. It was a fairly involved procedure that calles for draining the tank and letting the it sit overnight completely empty then adding the reserve amount of fuel then resetting the computer. Something like that anyway. Works fine now.

My '07 RT is exactly 3 gallons off. When the read out says 0 miles, I can only put 4 gallons in. It used to be exactly 2 gallons off until it was "fixed" at a dealer. The dealer is really great, so I don't want to mention the name.
Also, I ran out of gas in N.C. this weekend and after filling up, I found that I could only add 5.5 gallons.

How are you filling up? If you stick the nozzle in the tank, lock the trigger, and call it done when it auto clicks off you're not full. When the tank on my GS is close to empty the auto shutoff occurs at around 4 gallons. I can easily add another 0.7 to 1 gallon after that. To really top it of requires patience, though.

Hi Gordon -
My R-12s gas tank/guage works as advertised. As of 24K, full is full, and empty is empty.
Maxing out the capacity requires straddling the bike (to keep things absolutely vertical), and tampering off the nozzle flow (as I slowly withdraw to prevent the rising gas level from triggering the pump's automatic cut-off.) :bottle
FWIW
J.K. :wow
P.S. Then again, my EWS works as advertised too; where units manufactured 20+ after mine are having their EWSs fail/replaced. :heart
