I'm happy. I'm installing Ohlins on my GS.
But there's a problem.
The shock will not fit in the notch in the swingarm. Attempts to tap it in only manage to wedge it in and gouge the swingarm. :banghead
The problem appears to be the outer sleeve for the bolt. This sleeve in the swingarm through which the bolt slips protrudes into the notch in the swingarm nearly a 1/16". I've even tossed the shock in the freezer without any luck.
Help.
Please.

Can you provide a picture of the problem?
Compare the dimensions with a caliper (old and new) - are they the same?
Mine bolted right in with no problems

You must have the wrong pivot bushing installed in the eye of the shock. It should be a clean (just) fit. Carefully measure the bushing on the old shock and the one on the new shock, and then call the vendor and/or Ohlins.

Paul,
Does the non-threaded sleeve normally extend into the notch in the swingarm?
I'll take a picture and take some measurements tomorrow.
Thanks for the help, guys.

A side and bottom picture of mine.....hope this is of some help. I'm thinking that the non threaded sleeve may be siezed in the paralever bore.

thanks for the photos
That suggests that I've got the wrong bushing installed. :banghead

Even when you move the bushing out of the way?

I'm referring to the pivot bushing (big fat metal cylinder) at the bottom of the shock. I think Paul may be right. I'll measure tomorrow.

Scott - IIRC - the metal sleeve in the swingarm itself can move - in towards the bushings in the shock mount. To get the Ohlins in - you'll have to move it back out towards the left side of the bike. I seem to recall tapping it back using a metal bar and a shock-hammer when I did Wilbers on my '04 RS. You want it flush with the casting opening in the swing-arm (the opening the shock mount fits into.)
If this isn't clear (the photos above - one shows the bushing moved in) - ping me.

Thanks for the help, guys.It extends into the notch once the bolt is tightened with the stock shock. It should be tapped back into the swingarm to install your Ohlins, and then it will move in as far as is needed when you torque the bottom bolt up.
BTW - you should be using some blue - medium Loctite(tm) on the bottom bolt.

Thanks Don!
A little penetrant and some love taps and the sleeve moved enough to allow the shock to slip into place. :clap
Thanks for the help guys. :thumb
The next dilemma:
A. Get some work and painting done
or
B. Go try out the new shocks
