I was totally captivated by the Low Frame/Suspension/Seat version of the R1200GS on a test ride at the Gillette Rally. So much so that I want to buy one ASAP. Does anyone have any info on when these bikes will hit the dealers. My local dealer is noncommittal on delivery dates.

The very first of these models for '09 are being scheduled to be manufactured or manufactured now. That usually takes about a week. It usually takes 5 weeks or so to get them here after they are produced. I would guess mid October.

I was hearing the second or third week of October in Atlanta.

Good luck with your purchase.

Checkout Chicago BMW.
Two weeks ago at the local 'cycle hangout,a fellow rider/friend was riding a "lo version GS" that he recently purchased from them.
Not sure if it was an '08 or '09 but I did manage to sit on the bike.
Definately lower and noticable.

BMW of Louisville had lowered R1200GS and R800ST models when I was there on Friday.
Call and ask for Jeff Cooke

Lone Star Cycle in Austin, TX has had the lowered GS's for months. I sat on one and could get my feet firmly on the ground. I am 5'5" with a 29.5 inch inseam. Couldn't justify the money for it but it sure is cool.

Your dealer is not being truthful with you. They are available, they just need to be ordered. They told me that the lower RTs will be out in the fall.

Call Robert at Lone Star for the straight scoop.

He asked about '09.

Maybe I don't understand the question. I recently purchased a 2008 R1200GS w/the factory OEM lowered seat -- it is great in my opinion. Maybe I don't understand the question.

Wacky. I bought a 2008 Low Frame/Seat model GS in July. The shocks are the standard lengths. The low seat sucks IMO - it has virtually no padding. I swapped it for a regular seat and will get a Rick Mayer saddle as soon as he can build it.

You will be happy with a Rick Mayer seat! He did all three of the BMWs and two of the Harleys. Excellent work and worth the ride over to Redding, CA from Phoenix (a little over 1000 miles). He made a lower seat for the RT using the low RT seat pan and modified the GS pan to make it lower from the stock model.

I see you are in Boston. My advice is stay away from Rick Mayer unless you can ride in personally to his shop. My Rick Mayer saddle is an amateur hack job, and the foam is already shifting on the pan and causing creases on the side. I've already sent it back once, but I can't keep paying shipping charges to California. Also, I found Rick to be arrogant and unresponsive to customer input. I asked for a saddle no lower than the standard seat, and he sent me a saddle built on a "low" pan that is definitely lower. My knees are bent like I'm on a Vespa.

The feedback on Bill Mayer is considerably better, I'd try him.

Cheers, Tom

I have had GREAT service from Rick. Never did a ride in, just the mail system. He has done 6 seats for my bikes. Got it right the first time on each of them.

As for being arrogant, wow! I've never had that emotion shown to me. He is busy and professional but not arrogant.

Highly recommended in this household.

I have seen a couple of " factory lowered" 08 GS's. they combine a low seat but also special lower shock which result in a 29 inch seat height. To the observer it looks perfectly normal except that he tail is much closer to the tire.

I just ordered a Sargent seat and passenger seat. I am waiting the 6-8 weeks to get it. The workmanship looks top quarlity and they make the pans themselves. There is a full money back guantee for 30 days. You only loose shipping back and forth. Has anyone ever tried one? I had a Russell day long on a 1200c but I think it looks funny on a GS.

I have a Rick Mayer saddle on my 2005 BMW GS1200. I am very satisfied with it! It is very comfortable and the workmanship is fist class. I ordered mine from Rick at the 2006 BMW rally in Essex Junction in Vermont. I found him to be very nice and profesional. I would order another seat from him if I ever trade for a another bike.
