For many years I have driven MB and Audi, and in 2 months will be getting another car.
Was looking and am seriously considering the Genesis. It is an extremely well equipped car for the money.
While Hyundai enjoys very good ratings in initial customer satisfaction, I would be grateful for comment from someone who has owned one for a few years.
Thanks

PS - I am trying to be objective and set aside Brand image, etc.

Inquiring minds want to know. My wife wants to get rid of her Mercedes when the lease is up and get a "small car that's good on gas." I am interested to hear what people think of the Hyundai.

The one I am looking at is not good on gas ! Genesis V8
There are some models that are of course, I am looking at the first Hyundai stab at the Toyota > Lexus and Nissan > Infiniti business model...

We have a 99 sonata that has been trouble free- except for minor things-and currently has about 70k on it.Gets about 30mpg on average with the v6 engine.

Hey Jimcar:

You live in Oakville, shouldn't you be buying a nice reliable, fuel efficient, high performance GM product? :laugh

Hyundai is to Toyota what Toyota was to GM.

What's GM got to do with Oakville?? You mean FORD! And, um...NO!

But seriously, we inherited my MIL's '97(?) Hyundai Elantra about 3 years ago and it's been great. Our daughter drives it to Brampton and back 5 days a week with no major issues. Given its age, it's going to need a few things maintenance wise, but it's been trouble free so far (and she's an apprentice mechanic, so...)

My wife has a three year old XG350L and loves it. 32,000 and still rides and runs as good as new. She had a problem with the airbag harness under the seat and Hyundai took care of it pronto.

At 375 HP, I do not think the Genesis will be good on gas at all. It looks like it is aiming right at the S-class/7-series (large performance luxury) side of the market.

On paper and in the commercials it certainly looks like a great alternative, but at the end of the day, how does it handle, how is the trim level, etc, etc. I suspect that the Genesis in its first year will compete with some of the high-end Japanese luxury brands for market share. I can't imagine any 7-series (or for that matter 5-series) BMW owners moving over to a Hyundai any time soon.

Daughter's first car was an Accent and it has run and run and run. Only replacements so far has been the battery and brake pads. It is now four years old and, knocking on wood, has been running fine.

I have an 04 Kia Optima (same basic car as the Hyundai version) and while I don't drive it much, only 45K to date, I haven't had a lick of trouble with it, cept the mirror losing the programming for the garage door opener. For the money I paid (a dealer demo with only 4K miles and paid well under $20K) and the equipment it came with (I have the SE with a 2.4 and the sport-o-matic shift) it gets about 28-34 MPG and has plenty of pep. I've been very happy with it, its very comfortable, has a nice smooth ride, good handling, etc. I would not hesitate to buy another, or a Hyundai, since they are basically the same cars.

Mine came in mail on Sat. Just read last night as we were out riding for the nice, long weekend.

Short preview: Says C & D - a bit less sporty than target BMW - a bit less fancy than target Lexus. Way cheaper than both.
