If I lowered my wife's bike an inch how much should I shorten the side stand? Is there a rule of thumb to go by? I was hoping not to have to shorten it but the bike stands up too strait for me to be comfortable with it.

I lowered my R1100RS about an inch using Works shocks and I did not have to shorten the side stand at all. After you dismount, the bike will raise up and be fine.

It depends on your bike really, I lowered my R1100R about an inch also but I needed to shorten my sidestand or always search for a parking spot that was perfectly flat or spin around to park with the sidestand on the low side.

I'm not sure how much I took off though. I think about 1/2-3/4 inch but I'm not sure.

I lowered the bike until it felt right (Wilbers with ride height adjusters). Then I cut the bottom plate off of the sidestand and fabricated a new, larger plate. From that point I put the sidestand down on top of my new bottom plate and ground a little off and tested until I got the lean angle I wanted.

What model is it? My 2002 R1150GS has a way short sidestand. maybe we could trade if they are interchangeable.

The bike is an FZ6 Yamaha, I took a guess and shortened the side stand 1/2 inch after lowering the bike 1 inch and it returned it to the original lean angle when parked.
