In looking to move up to an '02 or '04 1150 RT in the coming months, I want to ensure I'll be able to still do basic repairs and maintenance myself. With this I have two questions:

1) Is there a web site giving advice for repairs and maintenance (something like what the www.f650.com is to the 650? and

2) Just noticed ad for Clymer Repair Manuals in the ON magazine. Could those who have used these manuals in the past give me their thoughts on these manuals.

Thanks
Steve

The 1150 are very easy to work on once you get the plastic out of the way.
The Clymer manual is pretty good. I have used one for all the maintenance I have done.
An allen wrench set and a few sockets are all you will need.
Pop over the www.bmwrt.com for a good resource for all the oilheads and hexheads.

They're good, but I have found errors in them. But then, I've also found errors in factory BMW manuals.

Check to see if your bike is listed on the Repair Manual dot Com (http://www.repairmanualclub.com/index.php?cid=3) site where you can download BMW factory manuals for FREE.

I have owned a 1998 R1100RT since 2004 and try to do a fair amount of the maintenance on the bike. The resources I have found helpful are:
1. Clymer manual
2. http://www.ibmwr.org/r-tech/oilheads/index.shtml Website for Internet BMW Riders Oilhead tech articles
3. BMW ON articles
4. This forum and all the knowledge it conveys.
5. Build a relationship with a BMW dealer by buying parts and getting your
service from them so that they are your partner when you need them.

Remove the "s" from the https and they will work.
