Windshield lights up

I have an Aeroflow headlight protector (need 'em here in the desert). At night, the edge of the protector transfers light to my windshield, illuminating it like a Tron lightcycle. I've tried adjusting it forward and back with little success (I can make it *worse*). Anyone had any luck trying a black Sharpie or electrical tape on the edge of a windshield to solve this problem? It's distracting at nite when the edges of the shield are lit up.

The tape or painting the edge black should work. It will stop the light from coming out of the edge. The protector is work like a optical fibre.
