I had gear oil leaking out of the tranny onto the header pipe. Did you ever smell that stuff burn:scratch THE WORST.
Anyway, I've just removed the frame and tranny to find that I have this fracture on the inside of the housing (clutch side) that is right through the getrag stamp- how ironic, Also found 3 bearings about 6mm. on size when i removed the starter.
It seems that a race had lunched and came right thru the housing. I'd post pictures if I knew how.
Anyway I guess I need a new tranny, any ideas on where to find one? [I]'ve aleady searched thru fleabay. The bike only has 49k mi.'s. This defintely sucks as this is my commuter bike, and gas is killing me with my truck!
Any guidance is much apreciated...
Thanx in advance,
Doc Scott

Hey Scott:

If you want to buy a used one check here.
www.beemerboneyard.com

If this was my bike I'd call or write this guy and get his advice. He may be able to do something with yours or upgrade whatever you buy at Beemerboneyard to the most bulletproof version.

Hope you got another bike, this may take a while!

Thanx for the reply.
I've contacted both for their expertice.
Yes, I have a Ducati 996s for sunday mornings and track days, but would not dare commuting from L.I. to Brooklyn where my office is on that bike. The belt Pkwy would kill it, and then you'll really see the tears pour.

Check out the Pelican Parts website. There's a forum for R1100S. Somebody might know of one or know of a bike being parted out.

Thanks bikerfish. I replied from my cell phone and didn't have the link.

Hi Group,
The only one that I have found so far is $650.00. Is this a fair price for a low milage box?
Thanx,
Scott
