I did not do this. A friend has a 85 R80 that he said had a stripped thread on the overflow plug for the final drive. So some yahoo ( maybe he) tried to helicoil it. Now he has a terrible leak into the final drive adn brakes and he is slinging oil. I think he punched a hole through the sleve that the brake lever goes through as now he has a bad oil leak. The overflow screw seems to be right in line wiht it. My 78 r80 does not have this check hole screw thing
is there a fix to this ??? is the sleve replacable ?

The sleeve that the brake lever goes through?"
I'm not sure what that is.
Can you find it on realoem.com?

...anything is replaceable, at a cost. He probably doesn't want to go with a new part, but if he does:
Here's the part on MaxBMW:
33111452033 housing $499.00

I'm thinking used or remove it and send it to Ted Porter's shop or someplace who can professionally fix it. I would think (but ask) that he could tell you whether or not its worth fixing and how much it'd cost ahead of time. If it nears $350, I'd consider a new one.
Hope this helps.

nealart and others
thanks
going to the realparts info, I was in hopes that #23 listed as pipe went through the housing, having never been into one of these mono final drives.

I wonder why a good machine shop cant drill it , put in a bronze sleeve and size it like doing old hydrallic cylinders and stuff, its not like the final drive is under pressure
