Recognize this part? It fell out of my R1100rt as I removed the left fairing. I can't find it on Bob's BMW microfich. It's about the size of a quarter

It is a nut cap,see if it fits! that is see if it fits the cable nut on your alternator or starter.
Tim
I just read your post again, you say the size of a quarter? what I'm thinking of is about the size of a dime. But it looks like a nut cap to me.

See if it fits the bolt on the banjo connection where the front brake line coming down from the handle bars mounts on the frame. Just trace the line down.
A cold one at the national rally beer tent says it does.

You might also look at the joint where the rear subframe meets the main frame.

Found it! It's the nut cap for the bolt that goes through the telelever. Now the mystery is how it got into the left fairing!
Steve, I'll still spring for a beer if you go t Johnson City. Just PM me and remind me. (I suffer from CRS, can't remember s***):clap

Do you mean the front of the telelever where it connects to the forks?
If so, you might want to inspect that telelever connection. That nut has been known to work loose with the front of the telelever coming off leaving the forks disconnected.
If it worked loose, that could be the reason that cover is off!

IIRC, that nut is on there with 168 lb ft of torque- it's not coming loose! the plastic cover is just a press fit on.

Alan, I owe you the beer. My bet was that it was off the brake line banjo bolt.
Heck, I'll buy a round for everyone who posted on this thread (cuttoff date/time is right now).

I agree it is the nut cover for the ball joint on the telelever, but I have not ever heard of one coming loose and falling off, the nut not the cover.
