Hi guys, This past week while on a couple thousand mile tour through the wilds of the Canadian Rockies and even the Bear Tooth Pass in Montana, we picked up a nail in the rear tire (Avon) of the '04RT. I got out the tubeless tire patch kit that came with the machine, pulled the nail and followed the instructions. We then cruised the 385 miles back to our residence at Haines, Oregon through 105 degree heat with not a problem. I removed the tire and observed the patch and and all I can say is I am definitely gonna buy a new patch kit no doubt about it! Never ever gonna leave home without one.:D

Avons were both shot anyway so no loss there. Just ordered a new pair of Dunlops.

No tire manufacturer approves external plugs--they're a get you to the tire fixer solution.

The external patches are designed to get you to a place where a proper repair can be made. The safest way to patch a tire is to glue a patch on the inside of the tire. This will prevent air from getting inside the rubber itself through the cords.
Each to his/her own on riding on a repaired bike tire, but depending on what type of damage was sustained, you may rethink riding on that tire.
