I've listed a 1983 R65 for sale for $2050 on a couple of other websites. It's got an Arizona salvage title, and I don't trust the final drive, and it has 81k on the odo. Still has all the emissions crap, but it runs and shifts just fine. It's mighty clean, but...

Is this a fair price? What's reasonable for me to expect out of this bike? How much difference would a restored title make?

That depends. Does it include the custom ammo box side cases?:deal

Heck, no! I use those suckers all the time- can't imagine not having them.

This is a bike I got at a fire sale, with the intention of selling later. Turns out now that the fire sale I'm having is for me!

Is the bike registered in Alabama?
If so, you have a salvage(d) title already. At least here in Nevada, salvaged = restored. there is no separate "restored" status.. A salvage (no past tense) cannot legally be registered for road use, and may only be transferred amongst dealers.
That being the case, if you have a "salvage" no past tense, the bike is nearly worthless, at least in this state, to anyone except a dealer. On the other hand, if it is "salvaged" , it is immediately registerable. So the value then would just have to take into account the stigma whenever the buyer might want to sell.
I don't think your asking price is necessarily out of line - on the basis of other asking prices I am seeing. But I also don't see some of those bikes moving.
i have one R65, and i like it. Even in the BMW community, these seem stigmatised because of issues with the 1979-80 models.

If I'm to part this bike out, what should I start with? Tranny?

If you pay for my gas (R/T from Albertville, Alabama) and a per diem for the drive, then I'd consider it.

Since I had that year for 10 years (1995-2004), I can tell you it doesn't have any issues.

You are confusing airheads with oilheads/hexheads.

Issues I have heard more than thrice about these:

Improperly heat treated valve stems
Unique clutches
DDR made electrical components
Main bearing tolerances
