I'm writing this report on ADV forum and at first I thought that I will just post link here, than I've decided that this would not be fair to those that like to stay on this forum alone so I will copy all of it step by step as I will go alone with the report.

While filling up my bike on one the gas stations in Quebec, some guy said to me
- Canada is a little bit wet lately eh?
- Yes, but at least its not raining
I said, while it was pouring at that moment. he didn't get the joke.
o well

So I was suppose to ride through Labrador and all that good stuff, but just like any other of my trips… they don’t just get slightly adjusted… they get totally overhauled
Lol
But let’s take a day at a time
Shall we?

Day 1
http://jantarek.smugmug.com/photos/349811455_NcxPd-XL.jpg

I got up in the morning and hopped on my already loaded-up bike so I can leave right after work
http://jantarek.smugmug.com/photos/349811713_Pb6sW-XL.jpg

I left at 3:30pm to beat the Hartford’s traffic and left for the border making only two stops on the way

one just past Springfield MA ( RT91)
http://jantarek.smugmug.com/photos/349807432_8EkR2-XL.jpg

and one White river junction VT. or somehere in the area
http://jantarek.smugmug.com/photos/349808322_m2QBk-XL.jpg

After several hours of pushing through RT91. I got into a small town just 4 miles from the border and found some motel for 50 bucks. It wasn’t the nicest one I’ve seen , but nothing that couple of beers wouldn’t fix.

Canada here I come, well next day that is

day 2

Got up early in the morning and left for the border, the crossing was nice and quick, lady at the window gave me a thumbs up and I was on my way to Québec.
http://jantarek.smugmug.com/photos/349808567_FmRfo-XL.jpg

First rain started just before the connection of RT55 and RT10 and within 10min. it got so bad that my bike was sliding from side to side, so I found the first bridge and Parked until the roads get a little bit better.

I don't know what that means
http://jantarek.smugmug.com/photos/349808504_YuHyW-XL.jpg

So an hour or so later the rain slowed enough so I could see where I’m going, so I thought anyway, because few min later I realized that it was a wrong way on RT10 :doh
O well, I found the first exit and after 15min I was back on RT55. Right after connection of RT20 and RT55, another hard rain, but at least this time it was a little bit lighter and I had a companion to ride with. A very cool guy from P.E.I. riding his huge Gold Wing trike. We pulled to some small town for a fill-up and coffee break and small chat he gave me some maps and his phone # to call him if I end up near him. Thanks Man

It was raining on and off going through Québec city and past, than one more serious pour down that made me stop for over an hour and by the time I got into a Riviere-Du-Loup I had enough so I stayed over night in Motel Damour where I meet few cool bikers

Day 3

In the morning while drinking coffee I was debating on if I have time to make to happy goose valley for that ferry on Sunday 5pm. Few doors down from me was a super nice couple from Montreal they were traveling back from Acadia Park, and last night she caught a flat on her bike, bummer. We talked for a while and they said that trying to make Labrador in that short time is a little nuts, and show me some nice places to go to in Gaspe instead.
http://jantarek.smugmug.com/photos/349803422_CtDpZ-XL.jpg

So after a while of talking to them and other bikers I was pretty much convinced to do just that…. Until I got on the road again, the decision was quick I’m going for it, I will make the lab on time

This small town reminded me so much of one of those toy train settings that I had to turn around, walk up the hill and snap few pics
.http://jantarek.smugmug.com/photos/349706781_NuFR6-XL.jpg

Walked back down to my bike and my phone rang, it was my sister, bad news my Grandfather past away last night. So we talked for more than an hour and she convinced me not to go with the plan. The truth is that me and my gramps never really got alone but he was my Mom’s father after all and she was in the stress as it is so if something would it happen to me out there in Labrador, she would probably end up getting a heart attack, so I called her and after another hour on the phone she told me to go on with my trip but to be careful (she didn’t knew about the lab anyway) so the plans had changed and I was going for Gaspe instead

Day 3 TBC.

Day 3 cont.

I think that the road around Gaspe is one the most motorcycle friendly roads I’ve ever been on. Its not difficult road at all, very scenic and those rest areas are awesome and people a very friendly. I will go back there again someday but this time ride it counter clockwise.
Ok few pics. From there

At least it wasn’t raining, but the mist made me keep my rain gear on
http://jantarek.smugmug.com/photos/349707913_mZAZ6-XL.jpg

Passing through few small beatiful towns
http://jantarek.smugmug.com/photos/349709220_dEce5-XL.jpg

Coming up on wind machines
http://jantarek.smugmug.com/photos/349710510_qEpt8-XL.jpg

So that’s where the mothership has landed

http://jantarek.smugmug.com/photos/349713602_5MomT-XL.jpg

Rest areas were great
http://jantarek.smugmug.com/photos/349714327_uwGnb-XL.jpg

like I said, tons of mist in the air
http://jantarek.smugmug.com/photos/349716504_ycuP8-XL.jpg

than I found this great rest area to camp on, it was right by the water with tables and bathroom with running water, super clean

http://jantarek.smugmug.com/photos/349717606_jX3e7-XL.jpg

so I had a nice dinner and went to sleep, I slept like a baby (or log ) may I add

Six of us just finished the Trans Labrador Hwy and a few days in Newfoundland/Nova Scotia. I had to split early, but the others spent a day doing the Gaspe'. From your pictures, I missed a good time. We did 1100 miles total on dirt. We also went as far as you can on the new road before we got scolded and turned around 44 miles from Goose Bay. The other end from Cartwright is supposedly done about 100-150 miles in. Finally found out what a bakeapple is! Great trip.

next day around 7am a cleaning person woke me up and we had a little chat, well as much as we could since he didn't speak much English and no word in French from me lol, he was very nice and just curious as who I was and how is my trip so far. after that I had a quick breakfast and left for Perce.

riding Gaspe counter clockwise is better choice for views so I had to turn around often

day 4 cont

few things that caught my eye it was how in Canada they like to tell everyone on huge sign, how much would cost you for speeding and how may points you would lose. also there was many roads repairs and as well signgs how much did that cost, well I guess its one way to make people aware of that.

hey its not Trans Lab. but at least I got my bike dirty :p

Day 5

It was raining pretty hard as I got into Bathurst so the first thing I did is my regular routine when I need to find a cheap hotel, I will stop in the gas-station and after small talk, you know the life sucks that you have to work right now and this and that. Than I will ask for the cheapest place to stay, so the dude told me about some “John motel” so I went there and ops all taken but the guy was very nice and after 10 or so phone calls we found a place in “Comfort inn”. So I got there and after settling things in I got into a small talk with the guy at the front desk, come to find-out that there is a Drag Racing event in the area and the Eagles are coming!!!!! yaaaaay. Well the people were exited. So anyway I was hanging around the front for a while talking to people, around 11pm or so I went to get some zz’s. about 2am nice wake-up when next door a drunk girl locked her self in the room and her boyfriend tried to get in, 10, 15, 20min. went by and finally I told the guy as politely as I could at that moment to stop that or I will make sure that he will end-up in that room without opening the door. But the girlfriend woke-up. Ok back to sleep. 5am she screaming her lungs off as he is trying to calm her down in just as loud manner. Ok that is it I think everyone in that hotel called cops this time, so they showed up got her arrested and the boyfriend?, idiot run away while leaving his wallet behind, so now I’m standing outside at 5am smoking my cigarette and watching that girl screaming loud wile kicking side door window in the squad car, and she was a 80lbs soaking wet lol. O man it was like watching cops life. After they left I went back to my room to catch up on well needed sleep.

http://jantarek.smugmug.com/photos/349806626_6g5iE-XL.jpg

Rough morning after what they call breakfast I started to pack and get ready for riding in the rain again, and it was raining quite hard, to bad because I want it to take costal route o well, highway it is than, the lady at the front desk told me that they caught the guy and now they are both locked up.

I called my bud from P.E.I. and told him that its raining hard so I won’t make it to visit him and instead I will ride to N.S. and do that first. Few min later I was on the road. And it was no problem all nice and smooth sailing, until I passed nice sign that said “grove pavement for next 2 km”, ok no problem – 20miles later I’m still riding this sandpaper road and all I could think off is that I would like to meet that engineer and explain to him how to measure distances.

I got to N.S. yaaaaaay!!!

http://jantarek.smugmug.com/photos/349728121_pW4eL-XL.jpg

The plan was to make it all the way to Whycocomagh so in the morning I can start the “Cabot Trail” counterclockwise, plus I like that name Whycocomagh lol say that 3 times in the row.

Well that didn’t work, of course. About 20miles from Antigonish started pouring again and this time it was hard, but that’s not the issue, the problem was that rain gear on my right leg come up above my overboot and I felt nice pool of water in my shoe, o well Antigonish for the night it is

Day 6

In the morning, owner of the motel I stayed at told me that it will be raining all day. O well I didn’t care anymore, I’m here for a Cabot trail and that is where I’m going. So I’m riding in the rain again and its getting harder so instead going all the way up and do it counterclockwise I’ve decided to take first left turn and at least do partial ride. Half way to the shoreline the rain stopped and sun come out, nice it made me happy, but the trade off was that it got windy and I mean wiiiinnnnnndddddyyyyyyy!!! It was hard to keep the bike up and for a picture taking from the saddle I had to make sure that my side stand is down. Screw it I’m going in

Cabot trail was a very nice ride and for those that haven’t done that yet, I would highly recommended to go for it, but try to spend more time in N.S. than I did. Continuing down the shore line I took RT19 to look for place to stay while I was leaving N.S., few small motels were full and the only camping I found was in front of cemetery – no thanks. Later on down the road I found this small rest area that was just of the road in the woods and it had table with a roof. So I thought I might stay there for the night as it was starting to rain anyway. Well I had a dinner and set-up for the sleep. For 30 min or so I was listening to the rain drops and as I was starting to get into a zzz mode I heard this curious growling sound. I’m not sure what it was a bear, moose or some other fuzzy creature?. I’ve decided not to find out and as a trooper as I am, within 5 min I was all packed and on my way to hotel.

So I made it to Port Hastings where I found (to be nice) the least fresh motel I’ve been in on this trip lol, no matter I need it to rest. As I was parking my bike right in front of my room, there were few bikers on their HD’s from somewhere in Ontario, so to be polite I wave and said hi. And like the dumb yellow m&m I stood there with my hand up as they were slumming their doors. O well, I unpacked my stuff and took some wet stuff to the dryer, walking down the hallway all you had to do is take a few deep breaths to be all nice and happy lol.

Day 7

In the morning when while I was checking the weather at the front desk computer, few very angry bikers walked in and as they were grinding they teeth they asked my how is the fricking weather now? Come to find out they got there all they way from Florida to ride the Cabot trail and instead thanks to the weather they were stock in the Motel for 3 days and never got to ride the trail. O man!!

And of course it rain again

Three Points:

1) excellent synopsis through pictures and word of your ride. Good touch with story telling.

2) what a great preview for those interested in next year's Salty Fog Rally in Nova Scotia (...we're still quite disappointed at not being able to provide for this year's event but it was the right decision). For weather "expect the unexpected" eh? BTW, did you get to Meat Cove?

3) your report has lit a needed fire under my butt to get a Ride Report done for this forum regarding our recent trip.

Great pics and report. I will be adding the Cabot Trail to my to do list of rides for sure.:ca

I lived in DownEast Maine (Machias) for 3+ years and never made it up there on my bike. It would be a good excuse to head back, do Gaspe then the Cabot and down the coast of Maine to see friends. So many rides....not enough time.:cry

On our trip to Nova Scotia and Cape Breton Island in July of last year it was foggy or raining every single day. We loved every minute of it. The ride around the island on the Cabot Trail is remarkable. Meat Cove should not be missed although I don't love camping on an incline. All of Nova Scotia was a delight, and if you can get there, and don't, shame on ya.

Border Crossing was entertaining, bunch of guys on HD’s went through with out any issues while a soon as I got there I was told to pull to the side and get inside the building,
Hmmm maybe they thought that I was carrying ice cream or something, but anyway no problem I got nothing to hide, and the only thing on my bike that could be dangerous were my unwashed socks. So I went inside the room and for next 10 min I was treated like a criminal.
- what were you doing in Canada?
- Traveling
- Where?
- Gaspe, N.B., N.S.
- Why?
- Just visiting
- Who?!
- Those places
- Who does that?!
- I do
And so on for few minutes lol. o man did that guy just simply got to me. At some point I just thought to myself, screw it I’ll go to jail for a day or two, I got time and I could use some good sleep for free. So as the guy was going through the pockets in my riding jacket I was pointing to the ones that he missed as he was getting aggravated finally I said that he missed one more.
where? – he said,
So I said to him - You the expert figure it out genius.
His face got red and he told me to get my stuff and get out. So I had my ADV salute behind my back as I was walking out and I know that he was watching it.

Great report! I rode 132 in early June, also in the wet most of the time, and in strong winds too. I agree that 132 from Sainte Anne to Percé is a great ride. I also liked the stretch of 132 that follows the Matapédia River north to Causapscal, where I stayed two nights at the Gîte des Tilleuls, which I recommend. Clean and comfy, for those of us who don't camp every night. I got to use their barn to park and pack

As the attached photo shows, there was plenty of sun on the day I headed south. From that bridge where I turned off 132 to New Brunswick, I saw angers going after salmon.

Well combination of rain and idiot drivers made me change my plans of staying in Acadia, so I left to Bangor to find motel 6, so for a change I would pay less than $100 for a room. I found one but it was all taken, o well. Lady at the front desk made some calls for me and in few min. I had room booked in Augusta. So I had a nice conversation with some dudes that were staying in that motel, and as I was getting ready to leave, a bunch of girls all dressed up walked out their room, one of them was wearing a “Bride to be” sash across her barely covered chest. Well they were all some what drunk. The bride to be first asked me if I could take her for a ride on my bike, and after my refusal she asked me if I could stay for the party and even sleep in they room on the floor. Not that I have anything against girls slightly on heavy side or a good party, it’s the waking up in the morning with groom’s to be angry face next to mine, that I have problem with. So I thank them for the invite and of I went to Augusta, riding in heavy rain again.

Day 9

That just made my morning. As a frequent traveller across the border I've dreaded this scenario, but thankfully never had any issues. Isn't it nice to know vacationing in a neighbouring country warrants the Spanish Inquisition.

Great ride report and now I'm trying to think if I can fit this in this year.
