Bing has two options for alcohol resistant floats. One is the kit with independent floats, and comes with new bowls. They also have a hinged float, which is similar to the white float except the floats are alcohol resistant vs the shellacked white foam floats of the original style. The hinged float is a direct replacement, so to speak.

I'm curious if anyone has tried the hinged style not the kit with the independent floats.

The cost, however, is about twice as much. In addition, do you think its worth the additional cost ($35 per float instead of $16).

We have not got them installed yet . We bought the floats with a complete major kit at Gillette but have not had time to put them in. Now we have a second girl and are going to put them in her instead (r 100 rt). The original bike is running good with the old ones for now. the 100 is not.
I thougt and still do that they are worth it for several reasons. Gas is getting harder on floats all the time and sorrier all the time. Especially if you add alchol to the tank once in a while because of gas and water issue.
We looked carefully at the seperate floats and the new bowls and decided without a doubt they were not worth the time to install in my humble opinion. The way there made is great in theory but there is no room for error or crud and could dummy up the way I see it without hardly any crud on the rods ?? Kinda like a 45 auto you can get them so tight they shoot in the same hole but if you have a grain of dust blow on the gun it wont function so what good is the accuracy if you dont have the function too. Im probally wrong about that Im sure that they know much more than I but they just didnt sit well with me if you know what I mean.
Just my thoughts which you can ask Esther ; arent worth much :doh

I am eager to hear from someone that has installed the new floats successfully. I would be willing to spend the extra money, since they should last much longer and it should be easier to determine their condition.

The foam floats get heavy slowly (perhaps quicker with the alcohol in the fuel), so they can affect performance and balance for some time before it is a known problem. If the new floats are more constant in their buoyancy, it would make it easier to keep the carbs well adjusted.

glad to see they offer the hinged ones now, but too bad the price is high
