Have a prblem getting the locking gas cap off. Anyone ever had any problem w/that b4?? key does'nt seem to unlock it, has resistance when turning to locking position but none when turning to unlock position other than the resistance coming out of the locked position. Any ideas??

Yep, this is faily common. There are several ways reccomended (by various folks) to remove the gas cap when this happens. One I've used is to loop a rope through the cap's "handle"....stand on the pegs, put the rope over your shoulder and pull up. It popls out! Then you never lock your gas cap again. YMMV

I had same problem. If your remove the plastic ring you will be able to see three small holes placed near the upper portion of the cap. Use the tip of a hanger and insert it into one of those holes and start to unscrew the cap. At some point the hanger tip will find a shalow dimple inside the mechinism. Apply pressure and it should lock into place allowing you to remove the cap.
I am still looking into repairing the locking mechinism permanently.

If you dont want to have a locking cap anymore, which is a problem ( cap) like your having, there is a trick of drilling a small hole into the top of the cap right by the lock and it dissables the lock.
The PO was on a trip and the lock would not unlock, the locksmith was familiar with the BMW cap and did the surgery.
Im sure someplace on the web is instructions on how to do it if your interested

Son had the same problem when I um locked it. So he took a flat head screw driver and pooped the top of the cap off than unscrewed the other part with vise grips. Than drilled a hole threw the white piece that Locks and unlocks the cap and installed a small piece of wire with two part opoxi. Than used a vice to press the sides back together. Worked like a charm and he did it within an hour of me locking it.
