Hello to all. I have been lurking about for a short while but this is my first post. I have pretty much completed a restoration of a BMW 2002 tii (ie its on the road and I use it daily) and its time to turn my attention to my long neglected 1975 r90/6. I bought this bike when I was 18 (now 34) and learned to ride on it. I learned to ride by just leaving my hometown (austin) and have had many adventures form this time. It was the first engine I rebuilt (destroyed the big end bearings) At any rate I have vowed to keep it and it is time for some work as it has been sitting for years. Here is what it needs- A full engine rebuild, new spokes, side covers, new exhaust, new or excellent guages, new cables, etc etc. I will not paint the bike despite the dent in the tank as I am only interested in functionality -no need to erase the history of use. So after this long winded introduction my question is what are your recommended resources in terms of books, parts, and general info. This site seems like a good start. Best to all- Pete (currently living in Japan and wanting to get out on 2 wheels.)

Good tip! How about books and manuals- whats you favorites? Also interested in hearing about sourcing parts- used and new.

Thanks,
Pete

I'm also in the process of putting back together a R90/6, a 74 model. My recomendation for the engine rebuild is Leo Goff at Memphis Motor Werks. I can't say enough about his ability and knowlege in BMW motorcycle restoration and engine building. You can reach him at 901-757-1009. Good luck with getting your bike back on the road. Barry

"Memphis Motor Werks"? If its the same company, they rebuild porsche 911 engines too and have a great reputation.
