have a situation someone could help me with:
i have a 04 1150 rt, 45k, been to 2 different dealers (one on each coast) to fix a chronic low idle problem....genl diagnosis: tight valves which were adjusted, then 4k miles later, same symptoms; engine will sputter and die when rpm's come down from 3k thru 1k (usually when coming into stops at lights etc.....) on cold starts, engine idles at 500 to 600 rpm and vibrates violently. any ideas?

When was the last time you changed the fuel filter?

And cleaned the BBS's (Big Brass Screws)?
A simple cleaning of those screws solved my low idle issues on 2004 R1150RS.

A noob question:
What are the BBS's, where are they found and what do they do?
Thanks in advance.

a veteran's answer: do a search using "BBS cleaning" as your search term. all will be revealed, and you'll have learned how to use a new tool!

Actually, you will be better served by stoping by the IBMWR.Org web site and looking through the technical archive on the RT. It has many articles and small manuals on tuneups, the TB (Throttle Bodies), TPS, etc. and describes how to sync your TBs.
But that may not be enough. Nor may just cleaning the BBS passage. Always worth while to try the small stuff first, but it just might not work. Wouldn't for me. I had to completely remove my TB and clean them with TB cleaner. Including the BBS and all air passages. Even then, I had a small stutter at idle occasionally that would dip down and threaten to stop the engine. Autolight 3923 spark plugs solved that problem gapped at 0.35.
Point is, idle related problems can have more than one simple answer. When I solved mine, I started with a complete minor/major service as I bought the motorcycle used. New air & fuel filters, new fluids, valve adjust, etc. then the TB sync. Thought I had the problem solved until I lubricated my TB pulleys for the throttle cables. Once they got freed up, well ...
Bottom line is it may take a bit of work. All worth while to do, and you can learn a lot, but it's still a good amount of work to accomplish. I can say I'm very very happy with the way my RT performs and handles.

All of the above seem like excellent advice. I'll throw in my experience to check the spark plug function. Both of my primary plug coils were out and I was experience rough idling, lack of power at lower rpms and surging. It was running on only the secondary plugs.
Well, last year the low idle, rough idle was stick coils. This summer it was dirty BBS's!
