This summer I put on around 6K on my 84 R100RT. I purchased the bike in the winter and spent hours getting it ready for the trips. On the advice of this forum I put new Lasertic's on the bike front and back. They performed fine but the back one is now worn out. I often checked and adjusted the pressure. The bike was loaded for the trips but I rode solo. I would guess I rode on average 75 to 85 on mostly good two lane roads..

Is there a better choice for higher miliage or am I asking too much.

Thanks for the advice

Thats about the mileage I get. I'll take faster wear and good stickyness over high mileage any day.

You may get more miles out of a ME880. I know I've got over 6K on mine, and it looks to be at about it's "half-life".

Don't know about Lasertecs...

I don't have an answer really but do want to pass along that on our 1992 K1100LT we now have just over 11,000 miles on the Lasertecs and the rear needs replacing now. Front still has a few more clicks remaining. These miles were done on one trip riding two up with small trailer. Maybe the wear depends on the particular bike:dunno - Bob

I only got 3500 out of my rear lasertec. About 5000 on the front.

FWIW
I had been getting around 8K on ME88's then went with Dunlaps and get 11-12K, they are not quite as "sticky" but I don't ride as fast as others and slow down considerably in rain these days, so the Dunlaps have worked out well for me. Prices are about the same from my local shop.

I am running Conti Tours. I have a 100/90 up front and 120/90 in the back. The rear tire is a little tight for wheel removal, but has not had any clearance issues in use. My riding is a mix of one-up and two-up. The tires were on the bike when I got it, so I am not sure how many miles were put on by the previous owner. What I do know is that I have put on more than 12,000 miles. The rear is still in good shape, but the front will be replaced in the next few days. I am waiting for one to arrive from JC Whittney. The rear tire appears to be newer and was probably replaced a short time before I got the bike.

I am pleased with the handling and traction. I am sure there are a variety of opinions about all brands. So you can take my experiences for what they are worth. When it was time to replace the front tire, I stayed with what I have. As long as they keep behaving like they have so far, I will keep using them.

Never got close to 6000mi on the new lazertec rears. I used to get about 7000 on the perfect ME99a. Loved that tire in any conditions. Would love to see it back in production.
Switched to Michlen macadams...jury is still out, but better than the lazertec

Sounds like my wear is in the ballpark, I have no issue with the performance it has been fine. I got a bit nervous at how quickly the last bits of tred wore though I was still a thousand miles from home and did not want to take the time to order a new tire.

Not sure what i will go with next tire may look at the snow man.

I'm currently running ME880 on the front and ME88 on the rear, and I think I'm getting around 6-8k per set. Could be wrong, since I'm going off my memory.

There's a local Airhead guru who rides like there's no tomorrow, and he uses Michelin's Macadams. He's latest bike came with Lasertecs and he was not impressed. For what ever that's worth.

I've thought about trying a multi-compound tire next time--assuming there are some available for our bikes.

The Bridgestone S11 and BT45 claim to use dual compound. These are good handling tires like the Michelin Macadam. The 120 size S11 runs big, about 127mm and may not fit. I have a 120-80 18 BT45 on the back and a S11 100-90 19 on the front of an 84 r100rt. I did not want the extra half inch of height of a 120-90 size.

The Metzeler ME88 120-90 18 rear tire is a extra weight capacity tire.

Bridgestone S11's are for me a good combination. I get better than 10,000 miles out of a set and never want for grip wet or dry. I ride mostly solo on back roads at goodly speeds. They are relatively cheap if that matters.

If you are looking for a long distance that stick well in warm weather, not as well in cold weather, then I would go for ME88 or ME880, I guess this the new version of the Marathon.. I have used this on R100GS, K100RS, K75S, K75C, HarleyFLHTCUI, and a 1982 Honda Silverwing which I put the most miles on a rear tire, 17,000mi.. I also have used other tires on other bikes and I would have to say to cover alot of bases I would go Metzeler. :clap
