So, I intend to buy a set of the dunlop 404's for my R50. The tires I have are sized: rear 4 10 - 18 ( will replace 3 50 - 18) and front 3 50 - 18. On the southwest moto website with a list of the available D404's I don't see that size designation. In an earlier thread I posted about which tires to get Marchyman mentioned running 100/90 front and a 110/90 rear in a Bridgestone tire.

Help me understand tire sizing and what size I need.

thanks Y'all

I tried some Bridgestones in metric equivalent(sort of) which I didn't like very much and since replaced with Avons in the inch sizing.
I REALLY liked the Avons.
Spoken in the past tense as Pearl has been sold.:(
On the up side, however, She'll be replaced with an '04 RT.

The Bridgestone Spitfire S11 is perhaps the tire that was discussed before. I put a set on my 1981 R100RT--110/90 18 on the rear and 100/90 19 on the front. They handle real well and have a good load rating. If there is a 100/80 19 size in that tire, I will go with it next time.

I like Bridgestone S-11 Spitfires on my R100. They grip as well as I ride and give good mileage. I don't think a 100/90 front will fit a /5 or /6 though. Something about the fender mount clearance being less than later models. 90/90 or a 3.25 in Michelin or Avon are common choices. I'm sure others will chime in.

Well, I wanted the brakes, handling, and lights(not mention power) of a newer bike.
I couldn't justify/rationalize, at least to SWMBO, having 2 bikes for the same purpose. Soooo.
Another minor thing, but there's no place to put a second bike, unless my truck sits outside, which I don't like.
Put the bike on the flea market Friday AM and sold it that afternoon. Budda-bing, Budda-boom.

I found and '04, but can't go get it for a couple weeks.
New owner picked Pearl up today and I'm already in withdrawal.:bottle
