Got my shiny rebuilt Bings back from Bing Agency, went down to put them on the bike and take the Dell'Ortos off this AM, and I'll be darned if I can figure out how the cables for the throttle and choke physically mount to the Bings. I can see how the choke attaches, looks like you just slide the cable end in and tighten. The throttle cable is another matter, can't see how when I take it off the Dell how it will go on to the Bing. If anyone can get me a photo of specifically how the area where the throttle and choke cable attach to a carb like mine, I would really appreciate it. Nice to feel stupid so early in the AM. I wish I had done the Dell convert in the first place so I could have had an idea of how the Bings attach. Anyway, thanks for any assistance, photo or link to a pic of what this looks like. Here is a pic of the carb I am speaking of:

I found a pic on the web that gives me some visual guidance:

I guess my question now is how to get those little round things on the ends of the cables to let them fit into the round place on the throttle and choke levers. The cable ends are not the same as attached to the Dells. Advice appreciated.

cables for the dells and bings are not the same, check with eubmw, they have good deals on cables and complete cable sets.

The throttle cables are the correct length and are what was originally on the bike, in other words they were not changed to use the dellortos, just looks like the ends are missing the little round things that fit into the recess on the bing lever. The stock Bing cables I just got from BMW also are missing the little round parts on the ends, but are correct length. Just trying to figure out what those little discs are that seem to fit into the round hole on the carb levers that hold the cables in place.

This is the part that is confusing me:

My cables do not have this little guy on the end. Need to know where to get one.
End of my cables and the lever on my carb:

Missing the little round disc in the first pic that allows the cable end to secure in the lever...
Thanks

Nice Pics...............YOU HAVE THE WRONG CABLES..............
Yes the choke cable is basically just a bare straight "wire".
The throttle cables however; have what you refer to as that little round thing on the end. Actually, there are two parts. The cable itself has a round fitting that engages into the barrel looking part that fits through the holes on the arm of the carb.
Perhaps, if you bought the throttle cables recently, you can exchange them for the correct ones.

Thanks. Ok, I have the correct choke cables, I see how they attach to the levers on the carbs. Since my throttle cables already have the little round fitting on the end, I guess what I was thinking is that I just need the little "barrel" part, my cable would fit into the barrel, and the barrel into the lever. If there are two parts on the end of the cable, is it not possible just to get that barrel piece that I seem to be missing, or does the new "barrel" only come with a new throttle cable? Seems kind of silly to have to replace the whole throttle cable when all I need is the tiny separate "barrel" piece.

The "silly" happened when they were cut off and not saved.
The money has already been saved because you didn't have to buy del 'Orto cables.

I believe the "barrel" is perminately attached to the cable, when I've changed mine out I've never had to order two pieces, the cable comes already "assembled" and you have to slip the cable thru the slot on the outside of the double arm as you slide the barrel into the hole on the side of the lever then rotate it around and the cable winds up facing up at which point the barrel can not come out of the arm, then you adjust the cable with the adjuster that sits in the threaded seat above the arm.
Its not like the cables that attach to the levers where the barrel and cable are two seperate pieces.

could you even resue them if they were cut off? No big deal just curious, doesn't seem like there would be a way to remove them and keep them usable.

Thanks for helping me out with the obvious. lol. Had I done the Dell conversion, I would have saved the little parts. I got the bike with the Dells installed. Unfortunately not in control of how the job went down initially, trying to cope with what I have.

You are right Rocketman............I was thinking of the clutch cable.....Old age strikes again.........the barrel is part of the throttle cable and comes permanently attached............Dennis

Exactly what I needed to know, whether the barrel was available separately. Seems not. No biggie, time for new cables, then. Thanks for the assist, appreciated.

Well, when you sell the Dell's tack on the cables and up the price! :lol
"Comes with rare BMW made platimum-lined cables that were only available thru special purchase and are no longer available anywhere in the world and these are the LAST SET!!" :laugh
or something along those lines.... Ha Ha!

Hilarious. That seems to be how most eBay stuff is listed, as RARE or as the last one on the earth. ha ha ha!
Went down to the BMW store, they had the cables in stock ( love how Engle in Kansas City seems to always have my airhead parts on hand ). Indeed, the cables have the little doohickey on the end to fit the Bings. Excellent.
Thanks for all the replies on a fairly stupid/basic question.

Yeah, that's the term I was looking for, doohickey, all cables should have those!
yes it is nice having a good supplier of airhead parts, my dealer had an ignition switch for my 78 /7 in stock which kinda surprised me.
