Hi Everyone,
I just finished installing my new side stand on my R75/6 and the only part left over is the "shackle" that was provided as part of the kit.
It is found on the BMW parts fiche (#17) but it doesn't show installation location.
Can someone tell me how to install this last piece?
Thanks,
Marley

I believe that it fastens at the rear engine mount bolt: it is intended to give something positive to "clip" the stand in the up position. I think. I wish I had one. Mine is held up with spring, which is OK, but I would like a "detent" provided by that part.

The shackle, you describe is a metal stamping, it fits between the crankcase, and the frame, at the front engine mount. It is made to hold the stand on it's mount and provide a tab for the return spring.

nope, wrong part. Marley's asking about shackle part #17. you're referring to shackle part #3 on this fiche page http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=0293&mospid=47839&btnr=46_0047&hg=46&fg=10 page.
correct, it is the stock sidestand retention clip, and i believe it does attach at rear motor mount, as mr. peckham (rob or bob?) previously stated. both airheads ('72 toaster 750 & '78 R100S) in my garage have a Brown's sidestand, with stock unit removed (yay!), so can't confirm for sure.

I have a 75 R75/6 that I bought new, and it dose not have that clip, the engine has never been out of the of the frame so I know there no lost parts. I also have a 74 R90S that a friend bought new, no side stand retainer clip. It may be for a later machine.
