The high beam only works on the head light of my 1977 R100 can anyone tell me do I need to replace the headlight and if so can that be picked up at a local parts store. I bought the bike used and no manual came with it so I 'm a little lost more than normal.:banghead . Also hoping it will get along ok with my K1200 GT being in the same stable ... Tim

have you replaced the bulb yet? it takes an H4. there's a phillips screw on the bottom of the chrome ring. undo that and the whole lens assy drops out to access the bulb from the back.

Make sure not to touch the bulb's glass. It will break if there are fingerprints on it.

You appear to not understand that the "headlight" is not replaced on your BMW. Just the bulb inside. It doesn't take a manual to understand that you start with the screw at the bottom of the chrome mounting ring.
Of course, if you have a Vetter fairing with a conventional sealed beam, it's a different story, but no BMW manual will help you with that in any event.

...stray thought, have you tested the high/low beam switch?
