ok, I finally got my HID kit. Cost less than $100.00 delivered. I am VERY impressed. The ballasts (see photo) indicate they are HELLA designes manufactured in China.
It took less than an hour to install them and I will include some photos. I'm not very good at this posting pictures thing so bear with me, I'll probably only post one picture per post and will show at least three photos.

The installation was an absolute no brainer. I even got it right the first time. I will describe how I did it.
1. Remove left and right mirrors
2. Remove left and right upper front fairings (two screws inside front wheel well and one under the rear edge and one under the instruments.
3. Remove the instrument bezel two screws under mirrors one under instrument bezel where it is hidden until you remove the bezel.
4. Unscrew caps covering the low beam bulbs. Drill a hole (23mm) in center of cap. This hole will be perfectly sealed and covered later.
5. Remove old H7 bulbs after disconnecting plug from rear.
Note: The brown wires are negative (Ground).
6. Insert new HID bulb with the tab oriented the same way as old bulbs. Lock them in place with the spring clips.
7. Plug the black wire from the new harness into the brown side of the headlight plug. Plug the other wire (Blue on my kit) into the NON brown (White or yellow) hot lead.
8 Slip the original BMW cover over the wire harness using the 23mm hole and work it down the harness until you come to the bulkhead seal rubber. Pull this part way through the hole and work the lips over the outside to create a perfect seal.
9. Mount the ballast. I used the mounting hardware in the kit and used the metal tab that has nothing attached to it normally see photos.
10. Connect the three wires and they are each different connectors so you can't get it wrong. Note the connectors have a "pin" to lock them together make sure you orient the plugs so they lock properly.
That's it. All the connectors have very professional sealing devices of what seems to be silicone rubber with multiple ribs to seal the connections. Understandable when you consider 23,000 volts starting current.
I switched on my ignition, started the engine and voila the HID low beams came on. No errors noted on the canbus system and they seem to put out about twice the light of the standard H7 bulbs and they do it on 35 watts after startup.
Here's the left side, right side coming next.

I imported them from Beijing China via DHL through customs. I can get them in lots of ten each for around eighty bucks each including shipping. They come with two HID bulbs, two wiring harnesses, two mounting kits for the ballasts and two ballasts. I can get them for H3, H7, and other bulb types also. I'll run them for a while and post my results. Nicest part is I can switch back to stock bulbs with no effort other than unplugging from the original bulb connector, putting the original bulb in and plugging the original connector back onto the bulb. With two ballasts and two separate systems if one fails I've still got a working low beam on the other side. :dance

Went for a 300 mile ride yesterday (Monday 8/4) and still no problems. The lights reflecting off the vehicles in front of me are brighter and bluer (sic) than the stock lights were. Still no kind of static from the canbus or computer. The lights seem to have a central "hot spot" that throws a good beam down the road and a wide "halo" effect that lights the sides of the road a good distance also. The high beam (stock) seems to be just a bit higher than the low beams and centered between their major illuminated areas.

Took it out for a night run finally. HID lights seemed a little brighter than I remember the stock low beams. My recollection of the high beam was that it was very bright, brighter than the low beams and more focused into a narrow spot of light straight ahead and slightly above the low beams. Well, with the HID low beams it still shines a bit higher and straight ahead, but it seems dull and dim and a bit orange in color by comparison. I'm impressed. No problems with the cage drivers flashing at me for too much dazzle in their eyes but a definite improvement in vision.
