We just took Molly up the road for lunch and had a freekie thing happen. Wound it up to about 4300 and the tack just stuck there?? I tapped on the case and is went down to about 3800 but would not work. When we got to the sandwich shop I tapped on it some more and then forgot about it .
Heading home I noticed it was working again but only from about 1800 or 2000 where it had fallen to while we ate. Not going back down to 0 ??
I am guessing something or another may be in someplace and sticking the needle?? Or is this something that has a history and I need to know the fix.
Thanks for the help

Hey Jim, I'm in Poncha Springs. I have a 1986 R80RT with the same problem. It was that way when I bought it. I suspect that there is some kind of return spring in there. I'm hoping we will find out here what it needs.

No, nobody else has this problem because the rest of us have tachs.

bravo! another fantastic post! thanks again! :thumb :thumb
I've not experienced this phenomenon on my R bikes, but early K bikes have this issue where the thin plastic face warps and drags gently against the needle causing the tach to behave kinda lethargic.

Fixed the tack or tach but the issue in the forum here is repair the thing.
Took the tach out and found on the small smooth surface plate inside was some foreign matter and cleaned out the thing with some electronic airsol cleaner the with canned air. BE careful with the pressure on the fine instrument but that is all it was just stuff inside sticking things in the wrong place.
R and R of the "tach" is a real easy matter just loosen the three bolts slide the tach toward you and twist it to get the cables loose and pull the one screw for the wire harness plug.
do the speedo repair instructions on here listed for such and instead of pulling out the speedo go to the other side and pull the tach. It is an easy see and do.
If your real close and have a bad one we bought an extra for a back up we might be able to help you out with if this is not a easy fix on your. PM me and we can get together on that.
Thanks and sorry for poor spelling "again"
