I tried to buy one of the oil filter kits that comes with the replacement gasket and crush washers. The parts kid told me that they are no longer available from BMW.

Is this right? I can't imagine that they would actually quit making them. I have a feeling it is more a case of the kid at the parts counter doesn't know how to look it up. Anyone have the part # for the oil filter kit.

Beemer Boneyard sells the o ring crush washers.

I'm just curious if the kits are still available? I had bought a few several years ago and have just used up the last O ring.

If the kits are still available I would like to get a couple and be set for the next couple of years.

With the number of K bikes on the road all using the same filter and gaskets I can't believe they wouldn't still be available.

If I still had the box I could look at the part #. But it went out with the trash.

This stuff must be availble. These bikes are all over Europe. I was in Paris in June and you could see one about every 2-3 blocks.

.....That your parts kid is wrong. I bought two new filters at Chicago BMW just before Gillette and both were complete with gaskets and crush washers.

I hate to admit it but I use to always say buy the kit. And then I did the math.

I recently thought about stocking up on these things. It always seemed that when it it was time to change the oil, I'd have to wait a week while the parts came in.

Bob's BMW sells them for $18. I wanted enough for a year. So I thought about getting 6 sets so that would work out to $108. Yes, I could save 20% from Chicago BMW so it would be about $80 plus shipping.

I found RockAuto selling the same filters for 4 bucks each and I ordered the gaskets and crush washers from Beemerboneyard. I spent a little more than half that much and got enough for 2 years! :dance

I plan on using the difference on gas money for the rest of the season!

I looked on RockAuto's site. I found my bike and year and entered "oil filter":scratch . It didn't like that description. Do you have a part #

For the LT, the filter is Bosch filter # 72161..
Just remember to remove the sticker on the filter before installing.

The same filter is used on all oilheads and all brick K models (not hexheads, tho. don't know about the new gen K bikes either).
K&N pn#163 is a dead on match, and utilizes a standard metric socket for install/removal (rather than the BMW wrench- a good thing to know/have while on the road).
Checker, Autozone and Advance Auto all carry it.

Note that this is also the same filter that is used on the BMW 2002 and 320I.

Automotive filters are usually cheaper than bike filters. I have paid as little as $3.95 for Mahle and Bosch 2002 filters for my K1200RS.
