I fulfilled one of my "Bucket List" items last night. We took a ride in a hot air ballon!
As fate would have it, a neighbor just bought one and needed a launch and recovery crew. We "flew" for about an hour just before sunset. What a great view of the Flint Hills!

The ride was so unexpected that I had to take pictures with my cell phone. Here's one taken just after lift-off.

Tom, that is way cool.
I lived in Albuquerque in the early eighties where they have a hot air balloon festival every year. Ever since then it's been on my bucket list. Your picture just makes me want to go even more.

I've trusted less, but I did take the time to look it over really well during the set-up. Initially, I thought we were going to just be the ground crew and "chase" the ballon. When he said to climb in, the only hesitation I had was to take a leak.

A lot of the roads around here are like that 'cause they followed the creeks, but they're all D/S roads except for the one I live on. It's paved. You can see it in the upper part of the picture.
I chuckle when I hear someone say Kansas is flat with straight roads.

Yeah, if it hadn't of been me, I'd probably be thinking the same thing......"What a lucky sumbich".:D
The pilot is going to offer rides over the Flint Hills when he gets more comfortable. All you have to do is jump on your bike. We've got a place you can stay.
