The 1150RT was a HUGE disappointment. Two hydraulic slave cylinders in 27k miles. I NEVER quite got comfortable with the linked, servo assisted ABS. FD bearing failure, FD pivot bearing failure. And a nightmare to work on. Lets not forget surging and uneven front to rear tire wear.

The 1100 was better, same FD bearings failed, but the ABS was good. Even if you had to shut it off and restart several times. Cam chain rattle issues & surging were the thorns.

The handling was impeccable on both bikes and I will miss that part.

But over all, they were a disappointment.

One thing is for certain, I will NEVER buy a new BMW!

So now I will look to the past and return to the often missed reliability (but not quite perfection!) of my R-90/6 airhead which I consider to be the best bike I have ever owned.

A R-80RT or R-100 is next.

Is there somewhere a list of things to know about buying an airhead? It seems I read one once...

People cant quite believe when they see me on the 75MPH, 60-70MPG Kymco scooter and ask why I sold my RT. They seem shocked at the mechanical design problems. It seems lots of other folks have left the BMW fold because of goofy/shoddy engineering and total disregard by BMWNA.

I can honestly say I dont miss either oilhead, and am actually happy they are gone.
