There are published rules of conduct for the MOA forum and this is one way we Moderators work to keep the rules. Doghoused threads serve as bad examples, threads we do not want to continue in the direction they are headed. If you have specific questions about a thread, please feel free to contact the moderator(s) involved in the group or the action, or contact username (Lee Jones), the forum liaison. Thanks!

Yep. Sad but true Bob. There are some members who feel that every thread needs to be vetted in order to make sure that their individual sensitivities’ are protected at the expense of your opinion. There was a bit of a movement some time ago to get the speech rule of the forum to loosen up a bit. Obviously nothing came from it.
For the most part I enjoy the forum and have learned to just deal with the fact that in the forum some members are just a little more important than others. It’s a great place to talk about bikes but a home for the likes of Jefferson or Paine it is not.
I give this thread 10 posts until one of those secret “busy bodies” complains via PM to a moderator and your humble thread is closed.
Two legs good , four legs bad.
Going to Paonia.

I have had some of my threads sent to the doghouse and do not feel slighted. Some discussions do not fit the forum or eventually get off track.

Being put in the Doghouse is not as bad a removing them. At least we can see what all the fuss was about.
Hi Folks,
The forum guidelines are here:
http://www.bmwmoa.org/forum/faq.php?faq=vb_faq#faq_postingguidelines
There is a little "!" button by every post and if anyone feels someone has gone too far they can hit that button and tell the Mods about it. A Mod will look and if in a his or her judgement the post violates the guidelines we will send a note to the poster letting him know and remove the post. If a whole thread is veering off course (say a heated discussion of the Presidential Candidates) we will just doghouse the thread.
There are plenty of motorcycle enthusiast boards out there, some with looser and some with tighter content policies, and many if not most folks here visit them as well. The guidelines we have now on the BMW MOA boards have been tweaked (a lot!) over time but they are certainly not set in stone and should absolutely be updated from time to time. As always, the Board of Directors determines what is and isn't in the guidelines and if you have a specific complaint I urge you to contact them with your concerns. You can find the list and contact info here:
http://www.bmwmoa.org/about/officers_staff.htm
Also, if you have a specific question about Moderation you can always ask me or the Forum Liaison Lee Jones ("username (http://www.bmwmoa.org/forum/member.php?u=1486)").
Thanks folks,
Ted

Not worth my time to contact a liasion when I know what I have to say will fall on deaf ears. I enjoy a spirited discussion from time to time but I guess I'm a little younger than most here so that probably ruffles some feathers. My parents didn't understand the led zep and sabbath back in the day. I guess that holds true here. But on the other hand I can't stand rap music and my daughter likes it. So maybe its the same thing. Generation gap.

Bob, I was going to stay out of the discussion but I guess I have to comment. Unless you are much younger than I think, you would probably not be the youngest of the Mods by far.
As far as deaf ears. The Mods can only enforce the rules as they stand. They cannot make it up as they go or change the rules for different posters. While there is some latitude for common sense where a specific circumstance arrises for the first time, the rles for the most part, are the rules. The guys I have gotten to know on the Mod team volunteer a lot of hours to try to keep this a fun place.
And as far as bringing about change, a number of members have tried to do that within the rules and spirit of the forum. There was an open invitation for any MOA members to participate in the effort. I can tell you that the group was, and still is, being listened to. Working in the system, open mindedly and civilly, is a great way to suggest and implement change. The photography forum is one example. There will be others. Be patient and watch the forum over the next several months, who knows what you may see. But remember, change in an organization this large, mostly run by volunteers, takes time.

Bob,
If you think that it's unfair, what about the fact that one individual can portray a whole thread as "Terrible" for all other potential readers to see.
Someone has just run carte blanche through my postings and rated them all as "terrible", irrespective of topic, or whoever else has posted, or what has been written.
Unbridled censorship of a sort, annonymous critiquing...bless whoever did it.
Fortunately they can only vote once, so to level things out, I had to falsely vote my own threads as being "Brilliant". So ya boo to whoever it was.
I'll even boost this thread, purely on principle.

But the common denominator is Motorcycling... Which in itself makes us ageless.
...but a good point was made on another board that while we are adults...
Grandpa may be sitting here w/ the Grandkids showing them his passion.
That makes sense to me.

I suppose I am still considered a newbie to the site. I will say this, I enjoy it everyday. I like to think I can add something to some of the topics. Some things are beyond me I doubt you will ever see me post in the gearhead section. I was not however aware that people could critique my posts. That is very interesting. I am still learning my way through this site. The ones that really bug me, well first let me say I like all the posts even the ignorant ones. The ones that get to me are the folks that have like 3 total posts and they are all negative in nature. Some folks just seem to thrive on the misery of others. I prefer to laugh, ride, kick back and mix up a big batch of maragaritas for everybody myself.
