Hello all,
Stock seat RT is fine with sheepskin, a little sore by mile 400, but not enough to warrant new seat. By the way, factory lower version
Have installed lowered pegs, helps a little
Have installed J-Pegs on cyclinder heads, helps a lot with position change.
Still need to stand on the bike for 5-10 sec every 30 miles or so to stretch the knees out....

Any thoughts ? > exercises, other options ?

Thanks

Hard to say without an exam and x-rays, but you are at about the age when arthritis begins. In the knees, it often manifests itself with pain when you do not move for a while, and then extreme discomfort for the first few times of moving after you have been at rest. However, movement is the key to pain relief, especially movement without weight bearing. I have found stationary bicycling to be very effective in helping knee pain. Just be sure your seat is high enough. Yoga for flexibility also seems to help. Over the counter arthritis medicines such as Advil or Aleve may also help quite a bit, if you can tolerate them. But, it sounds like you have already discovered that you must move to prevent pain. Only way to know for sure is see your doctor.

I'm 54 and feel my pain! I rode straight home from Gillette to Minneapolis with gas and resting along the way. I did reach a point on my F650GS where my left knee really started hurting - I would flex it and even do leg exercises on my riding pegs. For me, riding 12 hours and 700 miles in one day is really a lot of riding on that bike.
I can't turn back the hands of time, so I just have to accept my body for what it is and just manage the pain by stopping and taking the necessary actions to subside it.
The riding experience is way worth some pain in my knees and back!
Ride on!
