Happy Ride-to-Work (RTW) Day 2008 ...for all you regular (and not so) commuters: 40 miles each way, "almost" everyday, 10-11 months a year!!!!!

For those that tried commuting today...congrats!!!! It's the best part of my work day!!! Can it be a PITA???? Ofcourse!!, but you are riding...and not droning on with the masses in their isolated cages (autos).

Commute as often as you can....if you can:thumb

Well, I didn't know it was Ride to Work day, but I did anyway. I have a 35 mile one-way commute, mostly down New Hampshire Avenue to my place of employment in Silver Spring, MD. I've always avoided riding the bike to work because of the crazy rush hour cagers, but let's face it, the GS is alot easier on the wallet these days than the Tacoma or the Pilot. Traffic really thins out in the Summer too, cause kids are out of school, which is an added bonus. It truly is a nice way to start the day.

I knew it was RTW Day, and I rode today. Then again I ride to work whenever I can, which ends up being 1-3 days per week, 7 months out of the year.

Did the ride in today just like everyday.

Let's see I work at an office building with 4,500 employees instead of the usual 5 bikes in the parking lot there were 10!

I did follow a BMW R/RT all the way down I83 from PA into the Baltimore, the bike had a BMW MOA sticker on the rear mud guard, weather is great for riding here at 600AM in the morning.

Rode in today, along with more-than-the-usual motorcycles. Even better was yesterday: Ride to Fish Day!:thumb The 4-piece fly rod fits great across the backseat of the R11R.

hadn't planned to, because my commute is only six miles, and paddling 6 miles thru traffic in 90+ degrees isn't my idea of a great trip... BUT

When I went out to start my Jeep this morning the battery was dead- yes, I left the lights on...that's what I get for hating and disconnecting those beepers...:doh

Soooo, I rode to work after all, then rode to Auto Zone after work too and bought a booster box, and I'll be riding to work tomorrow...

but I really miss the 60 mile round trip I had when I was in VA, which usually turned into 80 miles or so due to the scenic route on the way home. I was up to 3 or 4 times a week in spring and fall, and almost that much in the heat of summer and cold of winter....

I rode today but not to work. Today was the 2nd day of my 3 day trek to Gillette. If I weren't on holidays, I would have ridden to work. I ride my bike to work every day that it is safe (no ice, snow or lots of loose sand/gravel).

I no longer do the "W" thing any more. I like getting paid not to work. Now I RTR on the bike. It's like RJFF. (ride just for fun)
:whistle ;)

Mostly interstate 70 but boy what a view sometimes. When I see this I know I'm almost home.
