View Full Version : Willin: "Weed, Whites, and Wine..."
FWIW -
Lowell George said it best, in the Little Feat tune, "Willin." :bow
For those of us that hit the road each year, in search of that "Lost Highway," it's the stuff that facilitates the bonds of fellowship, and the associated miles of memories in between.
Given the bias of those who wish to emmulate the Pillsbury Doughboy in their riding experience, I'm glad that an era of half-bake ideas still exist for those that continue to dare Darwin and LEOs. :stick
RIP (Ride in Peace)

Colt 45 , 2 Zig-Zags Baby, that's all you need
Go to the park, after dark, and smoke that tumbleweed-Afro Man (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8xl7PVp4O2k):laugh

Great song, covered by everybody it seems, at one time or another. Saw Linda Ronstaadt do it live once even. :thumb

Waiting to be shown "a sign," is what makes these lyrics immortal. To validate and vindicate one's life and one's choices..., in search of love, purpose, meaning, and direction...., the great lost highway on which we'll discover and greet the Great American Dream.
With all the "nannyism" being pandered and promoted on this Forum, I'm glad there are still those among us that harken back to the simplier times of just having and fun on two wheels.
From shaft and jugs, to belts and chains, whatever the lubrication or loco-motion, to make your world and wheels go round, and around.
Hoping to stay on track....

Another musical reference, from Robert Earl Keen,
"..the road goes on forever and the party never ends"
so said Sherrie the waitress to Sonny, who was older then the rest..

For those on the road... An Anthem... :buds
Lowell George's
Willin'
I been warped by the rain, driven by the snow
I'm drunk and dirty don't ya know, and I'm still, willin'
Out on the road late at night, Seen my pretty Alice in every head light
Alice, Dallas Alice
I've been from Tuscon to Tucumcari
Tehachapi to Tonapah
Driven every kind of rig that's ever been made
Driven the back roads so I wouldn't get weighed
And if you give me: weed, whites, and wine
and you show me a sign
I'll be willin', to be movin'
I've been kicked by the wind, robbed by the sleet
Had my head stoved in, but I'm still on my feet and I'm still... willin'
Now I smuggled some smokes and folks from Mexico
baked by the sun, every time I go to Mexico, and I'm still
And I been from Tuscon to Tucumcari
Tehachapi to Tonapah
Driven every kind of rig that's ever been made
Driven the back roads so I wouldn't get weighed
And if you give me: weed, whites, and wine
and you show me a sign
I'll be willin', to be movin

Sherrie was pretty heartless, man. She "left the lawman lying", and let Sonny take the fall. I think I used to date her........

And I thought that was a Joe Ely song. Well they both come to us from the Lubbock area by way of Austin. If you ever can get a copy of the DVD "Lubbock lights" watch it, you will be amazed how many faces you recognize.
