The neutral light on My 99 R1100RT is acting funky when I put the bike in neutral. It started having troubles ocassionally but now rarely works correctly.

Sometimes it is sluggish when comming on and now I have to look at the gear indicator to be sure I have neutral. Almost always it will eventually come on as it should but may take 5 or 10 seconds .

I have not yet looked deeply into the problem but I thought I would ask for some advice if this has happened to others.

it's pretty common. It is a lttle pricy to fix bacause the switch is hard to get at, so most people just live with it. Realize that the bike doesn't "know" it is in neutral unless the light is on, even if it indicates neutral on the RID. That's important, because you will eventually have a clutch switch failure also. With that, the bike won't know the clutch is in either.

Whan that happens, a cheap simple fix is to cut the two wires going to the clutch switch and wire them together. The wires are in a black sheath that runs to the clutch lever housing (not the clutch cable!). Realize the starter will turn with thebike in gear and the clutch out after that mod.

You can also get the bike started by pulling the starter relay, turning on the key, and jumping hole 2 to hole 6 with a short piece of wire
