I've got a '98 R1100GS and I'm wanting to remove the fuel injectors for inspection. I partially removed the left injector and discovered that it doesn't match up with what Clymer said should be there so I stopped before going further. First: Clymer says there should be an o-ring at either end - mine did not have an o-ring where the injector mates with the throttle body (to my knowledge these injectors have never been removed). Second: clymer says to inspect to make sure each of the injector is "open and clean" - the throttle-body end of mine has a small metal nozzle of sorts, i.e., not "open" the way the clymer picture seems to indicate. Third: I didn't remove the injector where it attaches to the fuel line - I gave a pretty good tug and there was no movement and I didn't want to break anything - need I do anything other than tug hard?

Any help as to whether I'm missing an o-ring, the injector should be open and without a small nozzle and how to remove from the fuel line would be appreciated.

I can't say about the O'ring, but my 94 R1100RS, same engine as your GS, has one.

As for pulling off the fuel line, just remove the clip, and wiggle it off. Mine took a bit of pulling and wiggling to get off.

I tested mine by pulling the left injector out of the TB and starting the motor. It will run on one cylinder.

As you run the motor, observe the injector pattern. You will see a fine mist come out at regular intervals. If it is "squirting" out like a stream of fuel, then they need cleaning. You will be able to tell.

Just make sure you spray away from the bike and exhaust, and only do it for a few seconds on each side. B]This is a MAJOR fire hazard if you hit a hot exhaust with the fuel spray.[/B]

You can do the same without running the engine if you like, just remove the injector from the other side while turning over the engine. you should still see a nice spray pattern and regular intervals.
