Most likely Saturday, but could be Friday. Gonna be on an *insanely* tight budget this year, so some (but not ALL) of the grand exploration I usually do along the way will get swapped for a few days hanging with my best friend in Denver...but I think he said he's got us some tickets to see the Foo Fighters at Red Rocks :rocker , at least that's how the garbled phone message sounded. I'll be onsite at the rally Wednesday.

Leaving 12 July. I'm going to get my riding in before the rally. Let's see, Snowy Range....Chief Joseph....Beartooth Pass..WY14/14A in the Big Horns. Trying to stay away from the tourist traps. Did I miss anything? Not quite as expansive as Paul & Voni, but I'm still in my prime working years. :thumb

Up to Arcata on Saturday afternoon to meet up with a riding partner, then off on Sunday morn via the northern route. About 1800 miles. Probably won't get to Gillette 'til Thursday.

My wife is 39 days out from her first child. Although she's doing great, she technically falls into a "high risk pregnancy." We've just started having to go to the hospital twice weekly for a "non-stress test" to check out mother and baby.
I'll have baby pictures shortly after you return.
So I'll be thinking of you all and hope that you have a grand time without me this year. Ride safe and have a blast!

The too bad part is really I was hoping to meet you.

going to the GA club meeting on saturday, and will make st. louis by sunday.
of course, i could go a lot further, but this will be yet another "work-vation" for me.
on monday we have a kick off meeting with a new client in st. louis... large project. hopefully i can get back on the road and get near kansas city that night.
then tuesday, ride across the sandhills of nebraska and hopefully get somewhere near custer state park in south dakota to camp.
then on to gillette by wednesday, and get my tent set up in time for the ambassador's dinner that evening.
after the rally, it will be heading back east to a new business presentation in ohio.
god, what i wouldn't give for a real vacation right now.

Be fore going to the rally we plan on going to Jackson, Grand Teton NP, Yellowstone NP, Cody, Big Horn then to Gillette. After the rally it's east to Sturgis, Mt Rushmore, Bad Lands, Deadwood etc. then down toward home with the final good ride thru Arkansas. Back home around the 24th maybe. Thanks for the well-wishes. I was hoping to meet you, too, Dale and Ian. Next time.
I want to emphasize the "high risk" thing is just a precautionary category. Israel's doing great and really healthy. I'll take the crossed fingers nonetheless, and you can count on a flurry of pictures.
Have a great time everyone!

I will be departing on Tuesday, 15 July at whatever hour suits me. I will be taking the "long way" to Medicine Hat for the first evening. On Wednesday, rather than riding to work on "Ride to Work Day", I will be crossing Montana to Roundup. Then on the 17th I will make the final leg of my journey to Gillette. I will be avoiding the slabs as much as possible on my way down. I haven't planned my return trip yet. I just know I have to be back at work on the 28th and I'm sure my DSW would like me to spend some time with her as well.

I am going to do 14 from Greybull and then shoot up to Custer's Just Deserts, I mean, Custer's Last Stand, before heading back to Lovell on 14A. Then on to Red Lodge and Beartooth. Woohoooo!

My daughter and I left last Thursday (July 3rd). We rode most of the way across Texas on I-10. There were lots of DPS from Fort Stockton to Van Horn, so if anyone else is riding along that stretch be careful. Apparently there are 80 extra DPS officers in that area for a special task force.
From west Texas we rode into New Mexico, up I-25 about 60 miles north of Las Cruces to Hwy 152 and headed west to Silver City. That has some really twisty sections. My daughter really liked it! From there we travelled north on US-180 for 45 miles, until we reached Hwy 78. This is another cool road, a bit straight to start with, but a lot of twisties once you get to the Arizona section. From there we were on US-191 – what a road! We encountered some rain and hail so we sheltered for 20 minutes, but it was a great ride. Since then we’ve played tourist and seen the Petrified Forest National Park, the Painted Desert and Grand Canyon.
Tomorrow we’ll ride through Monument Valley, then over to Zion National Park. Still on the agenda is Salt Lake City, Bonneville Salt Flats, a ride through Idaho to Montana, then to Yellowstone, Beartooth pass, Cody and finally Gillette. It should be about 3600 miles in 11 days. We’ll be arriving in time for Camp Gears and volunteering.

I feel like I am ready. Bought a new helmet today. I am leaving Thursday and doing about 325 miles a day and camping. My first night in Iowa should be on the other side of Waterloo in a state park. I have decided to run Rt. 20 out there picking it up in Waterloo. I think I can get it all on my 650GS. System bags and a Kildala flat rack on the back. Nice piece of equipment. You can find it on Advrider and search for Kildala. That is his handle. "05" to present F650GS's.
Everybody ride safe! Have a good map, drink plenty of water, see you all at all three, Black Hills, National, and Paonia.

We're heading out of hear on Sunday in the early A.M. I convinced a Goldwing friend of mine to ride along so Wyoming, hear we come. Can't wait to get out of here. I have a charter on Saturday. My youngest daughter and I are leaving Wis on Tuesday after spending Monday with my oldest daughter in Madison. Can't wait. I do have what some might call a politically incorrect question, but here I go. Part of my route (90% 2 lane) was going to take us on highway 44 in S.Dakota. A coworker of mine said not to go that way because 44 will go through the Pine Ridge Indian Res. According to him" stay out." Could someone tell me why that area should be avoided? Thanks and see you in Gillette:brow

Left home Monday July 7th. Nasty thunderstorm in MI and a slight one while on the ferry. Lovely ride through the midwest. Highway 14 looked OK through MN and SD. Who knew it was the Laura Ingalls Wilder highway! I got a nice gift for the grandbaby at the museum at Plum Creek. The Badlands were every bit as fantastic as I remembered them, even in 90+ heat. Now I'm in Boulder playing with the world's most perfect granddaughter. I will try to tear myself away from her early next week and head up to Gillette.
