I have VDO aftermarket temperature and fuel gages on my K100RS.

I noticed today that the temperature gage starts swinging all over the place once the engine warms up (i.e. the gage is towards the center of its arc). It doesn't do it when the gage is to the left when the engine is cold. It swings mostly back to the left but will swing some to the right. It seems like it's mainly when I'm moving but I can make it jump a little by tapping the gage when standing still.

Normally I would think it's just the gage, but the fuel gage seems to be doing something similar. Again, when I'm full and the needle is to the left, no problems. As the fuel level goes down and the needle moves to the center of its arc, it will start jumping around some. Not as much as the temperature gage, but it still moves more that it did last week and more than its normal variation when accelerating hard or going up or down hill.

I could live with the idea that the fuel gage is still pretty much normal, but not the temperature gage. I have not had the overheat light come on and the fan seems normal. Do the aux. temperature gage and overheat light go off the same sensor? Where is it located?

Last week, I did have to remove the tank to change the fuel lines. I plugged the tank level sensor back in. I don't know if I could have done anything to the temperature sensor. I did take out the air box to get to the return fuel line, but did not unplug it; I just moved it enough to get to the fuel connection.

My worst thought is that something like the altenator is about to go and is producing voltage spikes, but I did not see anything happening with the cluster instruments, just the aux. instruments.

Any ideas?

No.
The sensor for the auxiliary temp gauge is located in the lower front of the engine under the water pump cover. The warning light sensor is the temperature probe that also controls the fuel injection, located in the upper front of the engine right behind the radiator. You must remove the air intake snorkel to see it.
