View Full Version : 2002 RT - horn won't shut off

If the horn is activated when the ignition key is in the far left position - steering locked and parking lights on - the horn stays on and will not turn off until the fuse under the seat is pulled.

My 3 year old discovered this for me while he was sitting on the bike, pushing buttons on the handlebars the other day. I ordinarily never turn the ignition to this position, so it's not a huge issue unless it's indicative of a larger issue.

Any thoughts as to why the horn won't shut off when the above conditions are present?

I also have a 02 RT-P, had this happen once, maybe twice. Check your extra police switches, I don't totally understand it but one of the switches keeps the horn circuit energized. If you don't remember the original positions of the switches, try them all. I believe it's on the lh side, maybe has a horn symbol near it.

There are the action words right there... 3 YO and Pushing Buttons. One more would be a dead giveaway... "Peanut butter & Jelly sandwich!" :eat

I have a black rocker switch on my LH handlebar that has a horn symbol on it. I'll monkey around with the switch and see if I can replicate the situation.

Thanks for the insight!

At least we don't use VCRs anymore. Those things were a receptacle for all sorts of interesting objects - including peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.

We don't? Hmmm...

This only happens w/ the key in the park position?
Was it there in that position when it happened the 1st time?
...and after it starts you can only stop it w/ a fuse pull?

Will it occur in any other key position?

These are things I'll investigate the next time I'm alone with my bike.
