I have a '00 1150GS. The clock display has recently started shutting off when I turn the key to off and then when I restart the bike, the clock starts at 0:00 and seems to work fine. Normally, the clock display stays on when the key is turned to off. While the bike is running and I reset the clock, it runs fine, but when the key is turned to off, the display goes away and it resets to zero at the next start and starts running from there. So, the clock seems to lose enough power to display and run when the key is in the off position and it also loses its memory.
I am using a 3-4 year old Westco battery and the bike starts fine and the ABS always cycles on properly, never a problem with that. However, when I check the voltage display on my Garmin 276C that is hardwired to the bike, it is reading only 12.6 to 12.7 volts from idle to 5k rpm. I have a suspicion that the battery may be approaching the end of its useful life. Would that explain the symptoms I am seeing or might my charging system (alternator, regulator) be at fault? Or maybe the clock itself is not working? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
