Hey Guys (and Gals),
I'm thinking of getting a tank bag soon and I need some opinions. I ride a 2002 R1150R. I'd like a bag that can carry a decent amount of gear but won't break the bank. Suggestions on what to get or even what not to get?
Thanks!

Click on Search at the top of the page and type tankbag. You'll be flooded with threads to read. Everyone has their favorite.

I like the SW-Motech bags available from twistedthrottle.com for the R bike (I had an 1150R some years back). They have an easy locking system that attaches to your gas cap flange and there are several interchangeable bags available depending on the size you want.

I picked up a used one the other day.. Should have purchased new. But for $95 I doubt you could do better. I have mine on my 2002 R1150R.

Here's a link (http://www.newenoughhp.com/luggage/tank_bags/firstgear/nylon_expandable_magnetic_motorcycle_tank_bag.html )to the FirstGear bag I use on my CL. Expandable, holds lots of stuff (even more if I bothered to pack in an organized manner). And not very expensive.

Thanks everyone!
Anyone have any opinions on any brand or specific bag to stay away from?
What about strap on versus magnetic?

Ok I'll chime in. I have a 2002 R1150R and a Big Mak it screws into the gas cap and when filling up you just lift it away. It has the possibility of using the small map case or the larger tank bag. I use the mab case most of the time, it holds my pencil tire gauge, my seat cable for locking my helmet, my registration and a map. When I travel I attach the larger bag and it holds a lot of gear. It doesn't scratch my tank and looks fine on the bike. Bought it used from another rider on this forum for about $100.

I bought a Nelson Rigg and really like it, maybe even love it. My only issue is that it's a little big and interferes with my handle bars some when turning the bars during slow speed turns, use it most of the time as a backpack (comes with straps). It's big enough to carry my Frogg Togg Elite highway rain suit, insulated water proof gloves, extra visor, first aid kit and emergency paper towels/tp, wallet, bungees, and still has room for more without using the zipper to expand it 4+" taller.
