Hello from Vermont and New York State. Thanks in advance for any help.

I'm the proud owner of a K100 1985 2 valve...
I was riding today and after starting with the usual NO PROBLEM, noticed the battery light on...then noticed the speedo and tach and gear # were out.(sharp as a tack, I am :doh )..lights and turn signal are fine.....bike ran fine.....got back to the barn and turned the bike off then.......nothing,,,no battery light or gear, neutral or warning light....the lights and turn signal still work...no whir from the fuel pump either...

what thinks you oh learned ones?

the weather and roads are beautiful here!

1. Make sure the stop/start switch is on. The lights and turn signals will work, but not the gages or starter button if you have inadvertently turned it off. This doesn't explain the instruments dieing with the bike running. I had this switch off on a Vulcan once and neary tore down the starting system before I realized my mistake.

2. Battery voltage?

3.. Fuel pump will not wirh until starter button is pressed.

4. Check fuses

5. Check ignition switch by jiggling key and see if lights flicker.

6. Check and clean the instrument connections.

7. Try and start bike with the clutch in. If the neutral circuit has died and the bike doesn't think it is in neutral, it will not start. I have the reverse. My K100 thinks it is in neutral all the time and will start in any gear with the clutch out.

Well ...thank you so much BG for the learned and elegant discussion....I really mean that!

It was the connection on fuse #1

In my line of work I have to keep reminding myself to always use the neumonic....KISS..(keep it simple stupid)

I guess the same is true for motorcycles...

let me know if you ever need any help with Orthopaedics!

thanks again..
