2004 R1150RT. How much does the 600 mile service cost? What do they do to the bike?

My dealer charged me $237 for this. I think it is mostly fluid changes, valve adjust and throttle sync. I believe they also re-torque the heads and check out all else. Price is comparable to the initial service charge for a Harley. They also did two recall's while they had the bike.
I always let the dealer do the initial service even though I am capable of doing it myself.

The 600 mile on my GS cost $227. Along with checking every nut and bolt on the bike, they do a valve adjustment, sync the throttle bodies and probably most imporantly - they retorque the heads. This is an important service to have the dealer do.
If you have warranty issues later, they're going to ask if you had this service done and whether you have documentation. If you do it at the dealer, it'll be in the computer.

I personally plan on having the 600, (done) 6k, and 12k done at the dealer, since I will be in the warranty period. It also looks good on your service records when and if you sell the bike.

If I were you, I'd ask before I let them do it. Mine was a little over 200, as everyone here says. But I recall reading on another board that the costs were wildly variable, so check first.

My dealer has a pretty reasonable price for the scheduled services. I think it was in the $150 range for the service.
One of the keys I have found is that I do not say, "you guys can only have it this day". I travel a lot for work, so I will drop it off before I go and pick it up when I get back, then they can fit it in when time allows.
Also you might want to see if they do a club discount. My dealer is about 10% if I am part of the local club. Paid for the annual membership on the first tire change.

My RT goes in for the 600 check monday and I was told that it
is close to $300. I am having some extra work done on it at
the same time so it will run me over $300 to get out the door.

We just did a 6K tech day today with 10 people in attendance. The average cost for parts was about $30 from the dealer. We did all our own work, and with the exception of the 600 mile check we never use the dealer for non-warranty work.
OK, most of us don't. It doesn't affect your warranty, after the 600 mile check, if you do your own. Just keep the receipts and save a lot of money.
The big thing is that you get a better job done. The dealer rarely has time to spend on your bike to adjust the valves and sync the TBs to the same level of perfection you can get for yourself!
Just my humble opinion, other opinions may vary!

Not to pick nits, but somehow I doubt they check every nut and bolt, unless they actually disassemble the engine and tranny to do it.
According to the maintenance schedule for an R1150GS (sorry, I don't have the one for the R1200GS), the only bolts they actually check are rear wheel lug bolts, valve adjuster nuts, cylinder head, valve cover, final drive drain/filler, and engine drain (since they change those fluids).

Perhaps I overstated. :)
But for me, the big value add was correct retorquing of the heads. I don't have the degree angle wrench thingy.
I still haven't figure out where the timing marks are for valve adjustments. There's no hole in the side of the trans to give you a look at the flywheel. The only thing I can assume is that there's a mark on the pulley on the front of the motor living under the black alternator belt cover.
:dunno
When you riding up to the 49er? I'm not sure when we're headed up, maybe Thursday night.

I'm not discounting the importance of having the 600 mile service done at the dealer (or the 6K for that matter)...I just saw a really succulent nit and mmm, it was juicy! :D

Friday sometime. Probably around noon or so. I've got a concall in the morning I have to deal with.

Dana, if you want to see exactly what the dealer does during the 600 mile service, the maintenance schedule can be found on the sjbmw site at http://www.sjbmw.com/docs/service/service_sheets/04190419197001wp07.pdf
