I'm planning a long trip from near Toronto Ontario to Prince Edward Island. My bike is a 1989 R1100RT with a Sergeant seat. I’m in the process of trying to make my ride more comfortable for the long trip. I'm considering the Moto handle bar riser kit and the Air Hawk seat cushion
also the Bakup driver backrest.
I prefer to sit up as straight as possible because of previous back problems.
Anyone have any advice on long trip comfort ideas
and how about the Moto riser Kit does it improve the comfort?
Thanks,
Cliff

I can't comment on the bar risers, although I had a similar set on my last motorcycle (Councours) and it did help the ergonomics (not enough though). I recently purchased a used Backup back rest for my LT, but it hasn't arrived yet to test out.
What I do currently have, love to wear, and recommend is the Back-A-Line backrest. Cyclegear carries them and I've seen them for sale here and BMWST.Com recently (one med, one large). This back support has a support with a core that molds to your back. It supports the low back (where all my back pain is) and helps me to maintain proper posture on the motorcycle. When I ride with the support, I do not have any pain when I get off. When I wear it at home, I don't have any pain period. But like all braces it does restrict movement at times so I do not wear it all the time at home. All the time on the motorcycle though.
As for the Backup back rest I bought, I didn't really buy that fo rme either. I bought it to give my wife a more secure feeling in the pillion seat. It might help me out, it might not. I'm not too sure about it honestly. But I know the Back-A-Line works great for me. YMMV.

I put risers on my RT and have been very happy with them. Got them from A&S they raise about an inch and about an inch back.
My commute is 60 miles and the bars are comfortable. I also had to put neoprene grip pads on, the arthritis in my hands like the larger, softer grip.
Have a good run
