I am out of the second hospital since my crash. Fluid buildup in lung cavity. You've seen the before and after pics of the bike. Orange 1977 R100/7 w/14K miles. The bike did an endoverend. Most of the front. top and back are smashed. The engine is relatively un-touched. After I declared the worth to be 4000.00The insurance co wants to give me 3000 and sell the rest back to me for 1000.00 is it worth it?

It's hard to tell from the photos, but overall it looks like it's worth the $1,000 to buy it back. I think you could easily get that back by parting out what looks good (heads, tranny, final drive, mufflers look OK, etc.). However, this would take some effort, and you would have to get rid of the scrap. Now if you want to repair it, that would depend on what needs replacing, and that can't be as easily determined from the photos.
Anyway, that's my $0.02
Edit: How rude of me. Glad to hear you're doing better, and I hope everything goes well from here out.

Buy it, take it home, put it in your basement. Then, call your homeowner's insurance and tell them it was flood damaged. BINGO! Another $3000! :whistle

Sorry to hear about your accident. I guess I didn't visit the campfire forum during the original post. I was shocked to hear about your accident and am glad to know you are making progress.
It certainly appears that the bike is worh $1,000. Can you give them a counter offer? I have to give your insurance company credit. They understand the airhead mindset pretty well. Make the guy a deal on a good parts bike while he is still in the hospital.:whistle

Dave glad to see your doing better. Bad deal you’ve gone through. Here’s what I would try having gone through a similar incident when a young gal totaled my Toyota .
Your estimate was $4000 there’s $3000 and they want $1000 for the bike. They are probably on the low side of the fence just to cover them selves ( no intention of rubbing any adjusters the wrong way here ) that’s their job. They also want at least a some what happy client. Tell them you will accept the $3000 + the bike. They will probably respond with counter offer you can then ask for $2500 +the bike your still $500 up. Worth a shot.
The guy I dealt with on my Toyota and I went back and forth for a couple days .Did a lot better than his first offer but less than I originally wanted in the end we both did ok.
Hope your riding again soon. Rick

I talked to him the other day, he is recuperating. I am sure he won't be working on the bike for months. I will call him tomorrow, he was dealing with some issue with all the rain we have had lately.
