Hi ---

I have a 1973 R75/5.

The manuals say to fill the transmission to the bottom of the screw threads on the filler plug. Fine.
The manuals also say that the capacity is 800 ml, and that's what you fill it with.

800 ml comes up to the TOP of the screw threads --- almost overflowing but not quite.

So is "bottom of the screw threads" a German way that we would say "Top of the screw threads"??? I guess it depends on where you define top and bottom.

Thanks ---- Scott

What would be the difference in volume of the threaded part of the plug? Stick it in a measuring cup to find out. Very likely there was that much left in the box after you drained it.

Don't go by the volume number...fill to the bottom of the threads. Too much fluid volume could reduce the air volume and create extra pressure on the seals. I doubt the small amount you've added would really do that, though.

Your bike must have the fill plug like my /2 does...you actually pour the fluid "down" into the hole. On my /7, you can't possibly get more in the tranny than to the bottom of the threads...the fill hole is on the vertical side of the tranny. Keep pumping oil into the hole and it comes right back out. OK, I could tilt the bike over to the right and fill it that way, but that's a bit foolish...
