I have the genuine BMW RT tankbag and have always wondered what that included bungee cord was meant to do. Is there more to it than simply in-case-you-ever-need one?

I don't know, but when you find out let me know. I just bought a used BMW tankbag for my 1999 R1100RT. I was wondering the same thing....:dunno :dunno

Just started using the Multivario tank bag and I use the bungee to hold my gauntleted gloves as I dig into the bag. I am sure to find more uses on our first road trip together, me and the bag. :p

I use it to hold my gloves. Not sure what else.

I use mine to hold my Garmin 2610 on the sandbag mound right on top of the tank bag. Cheap, simple, functional.

When you add the center section to the tankbag to expand it the bungees can help stabilize it, especially if not completly full. They also halp keep the rain cover from billowing in the wind. And, as previously mentioned, they are a usefull way to keep small objects like gloves, hats or sunglasses from blowing off or falling off when you stop. In addition you can keep a bottle of water under them for quick access (as long as it's not too bumpy).

Never thought about it much. I have had my BMW bag for a couple of years and never used the bungee cord. The rain cover drives me nuts though, the few times I have tried to use it. Blows up like a balloon when not using the expander bag, to the point I usually have to take it off and just take the chance on stuff getting wet. Always thought it was a design flaw. Maybe this is what the bungee is for. I'll try putting on the rain cover and seeing if the cord can stabilize it.

The bungee is for stabilizing the load. Just run it over the top, and it keeps stuff from slopping around inside the bag. Kinda.
